Just a warning about prefetch thing. After running that program my system BSOD'd about 5 time now in the last 20 minutes.

Take that as only a mild warning, cause the OS was already in a bad shape. I just haven't had the time to do a clean install. I guess i gotta make time after exams.

Boooo... Promise controller card without drives attached takes about 20 seconds to decide there's nothing attached + using ancient 10gig as OS drive right now as a temporary measure = about 2 mintues to boot.

My computer -> hard drive -> windows -> prefetch

Delete everything in your prefetch folder and re-boot. It will improve you load times significantly.

If you do this too much it will slow down your pc.

says the guy whose PC takes over 6 minutes to boot up ;)

I haven't rebooted in 72 days. Pretty damn fast though, as far as I can remember.

i thought disabling prefetch has adverse effects (speed wise) on many of regular windows operations... or so i was told.

I would know because I always use hibernate. That takes about 20 seconds or so.

Haven't booted for long time. Already passed prime95 test but I don't know how long this computer has been up since. I think two weeks ago or so.

I so rarely reboot, I don't know.

I do remember the Windows XP slider bar on the boot screen slides across 4 times before the XP desktop pops up.
