I connected the bridges on my Duron, and it has been running at 950 for two months now. I am wonder how long it will remain unlocked before I have to reconnect it.
It really depends. Some people have problems the day after (like myself), some after several weeks. Some never experience problems. Probably depends on both the workmanship and the graphite that you use.

Yes, you need to remove the HSF in order to pencil in the bridges (since the bridges are on the topside of the CPU, under the HSF). You do not *need* to reapply the thermal grease afterwards, but it is definitely a good idea.
