How long does it take to get a passport?

2 friends and I plan on going to Ireland (or somewhere in Europe, we haven't looked around at flight prices, etc a whole lot) next spring break (2006) and figure we should probably apply for a passport soon. Once you apply for one how long does it take to actually get a passport?

Thanks guys Another question, how might three 18 year olds go about getting a hotel in Ireland? Expedia says it can't book hotel rooms for an unaccompanied 18 year old.

for about $300-500 you can get one in 24 hrs...otherwise give yourself a good 2-3 mos

I renewed mine a couple of months back and it took about three weeks, which is about as long as it had taken when I'd gotten it the first time. For an extra charge, they'll make it a "rush" order, but I'm not sure how fast that would make it.

You can only apply for overnight processing if you have proof showing you will travel in 2weeks or so and might have to apply for visa to the country you will be travelling.

You can apply for priority processing will cost $100 dollars more(including $60 for priority processing and about $50 for overnight postage).

Find a real travel agency and ask them how.

Try orbitz, travelocity, going to the actual hotel's website, Hostel International, ....
