How long does it take to download HL2?

I have comcast cable, just wondering if i should wait for a bit and go pick it up or download it.
 
Why even think about it? Preload is free! Just download Steam get it started and if you decide to buy the CD version instead just delete the files.

Preload takes awhile because the game is so massive; upwards of 4GB for all of HL2/CS:S/etc. You will get good transfers from them, usually around your max transfer speed at home (I get about 300K/s with DSL here), so calculate the time to download 4GB and there you go 😉 .
 
Well, I've got Comcast cable as well, and I started the preload yesterday morning around 8am and it finished up around 3-4pm.

The Steam servers could be maxed out at this point, or they may be empty from everyone preloading yesterday. Give it a show.
 
Took me about 9 hours (done in several chunks over a few days) with my 1.5Mbit DSL. Averaged about 50k/sec according to Netlimiter, and never got over 90k of my potential 150k.

If it wasn't for the fact that the Steam Silver Package is such a great deal over the regular retail version ($59 no tax vs. $54.99+tax) I wouldn't have bothered downloading it.
