How long does it take to digest stuff?

gopunk

Lifer
because i just ate like 15 minutes ago and i already have to go to the bathroom.... this has been happening to me a lot recently. but i don't remember me having to go so soon after eating when i was younger. is something wrong with me? or is this normal as you get older...

Well, when I eat papa john's spinage pizza, it usually takes about 6-9 hours before i see bright green crap 😀

Good question. If you severely overeat I believe it's called dumping syndrome where some of your food essentially skips digestion and comes right out the back. I also find myself going to the bathroom on occasion from a recently injested meal, but I think that's not the actual food being digested. My feeling is that something like chicken will take a number of hours to really start going into your bloodstream. Liquids can be digested quickly as proven by how quickly a person can feel a buzz if they start drinking, though alcohol may aid absorption (or hurt it!).

How is that even physically possible? Food goes through the same channels regardless if you're piggin' out or not, unless you were making a funny (AKA The Skoorb Effect).

Thank you for that wonderful description. 😛

Well as I understand it instead of having ample time in your digestive tract to get absorbed the food is essentially rushed through your intestines because there is so much of it there and pushed out the back before it's properly absorbed.

Dumping syndrome & more

I hadn't read anything about it before, just heard a bit. Sounds like fun! I think I had it once at the end of a meal at university in which I was competing with another guy to see how much I could eat.

QA <- answer for gopunk on 3rd part of the "next" !!

Now if only we could program our digestive system to keep the healthy food and dump the bad food without first absorbing it.

Maybe this is the future of our evolution, when junk food is so commonly consumed that our body has to protect itself from it.

That would be cool. I could eat pizza and all I'd get from it would be the vegetable topping :Q

according to my bio teacher, going from one end and out the other (i.e. poo, peeing is not part of it) is 20+ hours on average.

Exactly....to anyone doubting that it takes 12-24 hours do what someone else suggested. Eat a can of corn with lunch and wait to see when corn appears at the other end.

Took about 2 days for that bloody gause I swallowed to take the journey.
That's just too disgusting man!

So I guess it takes 6ish hours to be fully absorbed and another 20ish to come out the back. Seems right because corn does just keep coming and coming!
