So suppose that I want to marry my gf right now, who is from another country. So I suppose I, in america, will need to find a lawyer, and all that jazz.

So between the paperwork, interview, and whatnot in between, how long does this type of process take? and is this something hat is hard to get approved for?

she is from S. korea, I am a natrualized citizen....

You DO NOT need a lawyer for this. Simply follow procedures to get married as you would with anyone else who is from the United States. Then it will be easier to get a green card. It's EVEN EASIER if you go back to her country and fill out the paperwork at the US embassy in her country. That cuts about a year off waiting for the paperwork. After she gets her green card, you must stay married for two years before the green card is PERMANENT (within last 90 days of her 2nd anniversary getting the green card, you must apply to have a condition of marriage removed). That's it, no lawyer needed, at least in my case.

Depend on where you live, it can be years. If you really want to get it done as fast as possible, forget the K-visa. Get her here first and marry her here.

i would STRONGLY recommend a lawyer...its easy to miss some TINY detail and get in deep trouble. There is a LOT of paperwork and "evidence" needed and the INS is EXTREMELY picky, EXTREMELY picky with everything.

The "process" itself takes a LONG time...eg. getting all the papers, counserling (lawyers etc.), all documenst have to be translated and notarized down to the dot of the i. Then you start filing, wait for your first green card, work permission. Card will expire...you will have to apply then for making this "residency card" into a "permanent residency" card. (I think it was after two years). INS is backlogged (depends on service center)...in my case for some YEARS.
ALready had the interview and green card and everything (started the whole process in 2001 after we married). In June 2003 we filed for the removal of temporary residency status...and they are just starting to see the applications filed in JUNE 2003.
As said, it takes years til the whole procedure is "done"....but it took (AFAIK) 6 months or so 'til i got my first green card/SS after initial filing, and i was able to work while the paperwork with the INS was (and is) still going on.
Also...there might be changes now after 9/11 and especially depending on the country.

Oh no...you're not Yet Another Military Guy trying to import a souvenir, are you? Sadness.

"Souvenirs" are T-shirts, baseball caps and mugs, not PEOPLE. The sex can't be that good.
