Shortening my first post, I would say 15 minutes if it is not only a waste of time, but you can USE that time for something else.

As for wasted time, some of the classes I went to I would read ahead in either the lesson outline or the book and listen for about the first 5 minutes. After that, I would snooze.

If I had a question about what I had read, I would wait until it came up, I would ask it, get my answer and click off.

It worked well for the basics, but I never did it for the more complicated classes.

I guess the long and short of it is simple. How much is it worth to you and do you have anything better to do?

10 minutes. If I'm expected to be on time, so are they. My professors always got bent out of shape when people walked in late.

this. generally the few times ive had a teacher show up late they were surprised that anyone was still there. generally when my teacher is 10 minutes late...i bail.

back in my college we had a 10 minute rule, if we dont see the prof in 10 minutes we jet.

Not a single instance when I had to leave throughout my 6 years of school, the always came before the 10 minutes mark... bastards.

So I find this prof lectures stupid
I don;t like her way of teaching java so I skipped 2 weeks of lectures and scored a 47/50 on the last test

I bet if I went to class I would have had a 49/50

wait:

5 min for a TA
10 min for an adjunct professor
15 min for a professor

Nothing ticks me off like a professor leisurely strolls in 15 minutes late and acts as if nothing has happened.

The 15 minute rule has been in place since before a lot of AT users were ever born.

It varies at my school. Professors get 15 minutes, lecturers/TAs get 10. If they're not in class by then, forget it. I've never had to wait that long for someone to show up, though.

Depends on the type of university. If the profs are also doing research, then on occasion, I can see where something that has just happened in lab might take precedence over a lecture. i.e. one of those "Eureka!" moments, else an "oh shit... shit, shit, shit, shit, shit" moment.

there was no official policy, but at the 15 minute mark, someone would usually be nominated to go and check the prof's office (and then if he wasn't there, we'd bail)

I don't take attendance. I don't care if you wait 10 minutes or 30, but I'm usually never late for a class.

I wait until the majority of the class starts leaving first. If everybody is gone, the professor probably won't cover useful material if they do show up.

However, in my 4.5 years in college, I've never had a professor not show. Only a few times did they show up 10 minutes late and for very good reasons.

iirc, 10 minutes was official University policy for students to leave and cancel class if the Prof doesn't show.

maybe it was 15. Certainly no longer than 15 minutes.

1: "The Eureka! moment" doesn't exist
2: That's what the lab manager and other peons are for.

They should reschedule if the prof is not in in 15 minutes... ;)

Oh, wait, you LIKE paying $200 for a class they don't give?
