I had an appointment with my primary care physician today for 3 pm. showed up at 2:55 pm, sat down, and finally got called back to the exam room at 3:30. spent maybe ~5 minutes getting weighed and my blood pressure taken, nurse dropped me off in the exam room, and I don't think my doctor actually came in until close to 4 pm.

I kinda wish they'd just call ahead of time and be like "hey, just so you're aware, the doctor is running 45 minutes behind schedule." at least then I could have run a few errands before my appointment.

Your time is free. The doctors is not.

When it comes to coordinating few appointments last as long as they are scheduled for.

It takes about 10 mins or less before they take me back to check my weight/blood pressure. 5 or so mins after that the doctor usually shows up.

I can usually make a same-day appointment, walk in and spend 5 min doing paperwork, wait from 3-5 min and see my primary care physician.

My rheumatology specialist I usually have an appointment with 4-6 months in advance (because I always schedule the next appointment when I leave the current one), and I wait for 5-8 mins when I arrive.

nice <3

I have a different physician that's a lot better about being on time and I actually think she's a better doctor overall, but she's ~1 hour away from me versus this doctor, who's about 5 minutes away. (my better doctor was from before I moved, and I'd still see her for anything weird/abnormal, but today's appointment was for run of the mill swimmer's ear)

I had an appt at 11 AM. didnt see the fuck until 12:30 PM.

Needless to say, I was nice enough not to make a scene but I was very curt and made sure the doc knew why i wasnt coming back.

Whoever up there just said the doc's time is not free and mine is laughable. that only only applies to people who have medicaid or some garbage hmo type insurance. for the rest of us with premium insurance or cash paying customers, you get 20 mins, or you lose the customer. this is a doctor's office, same as any other merchant and customer service and passable honesty is required (ie no bullshit copay, repeat visit or somehow generally milk the customer). Eyeglass stores are notorious for this when you just want a prescription to order glasses/contacts online.

This rule doesnt apply to a hospital though. You wait as long as they damn please.

My dentist and orthodontist are very fast. If you have an 0800 appt, you're going to be in the chair with 5 minutes of that time. Depending on what needs to be done before the doctor shows up, could be a few minutes, could be half an hour. Never had a problem with either place in timeliness.

Prime Care Physician, don't have one.

Our primary care physician...maybe 5 minutes for weight/blood pressure, then 5 for the doctor. Tops.

My neurosurgeon...might be an hour in the waiting room, 15 minutes for BP and such, and another hour for the doctor. Pisses me off, but there's not much choice but to wait if I want to see him.
The pain management doc is better. 10-15 minutes in the waiting room, BP and such are done immediately, then maybe 10 minutes for the doctor or nurse practitioner. (depends on why I'm there) When I go for my treatments, maybe 10 minutes in the waiting room, then right into a bed...where the IV is done and I'm prepped for the surgery room. Then, usually within a matter of minutes, off I go...for my IV full of "happy juice" and the epidural.

You seem to carry a really contentious attitude towards any service industry

Same day appointment with the family doctor - Usually get called into the examination room give or take 10 minutes from the booked time.

Primary care doctor = family doctor?

It's possible the provider was not behind until you arrived. Some patients require more than the 10-15 minutes they're allotted. Wouldn't you expect the same sort of extra care if you needed it?

You have to remember it depends on the doctor's schedule that day.

If his first patient shows up 15 minutes late then he's already behind on every patient that morning. If two patients do it, that's already at least 30 minutes (remember they all have to fill out paperwork too). Plus if he has to work in a potential emergency that adds to the schedule.

You can take solace in the fact that if he's running behind, he's just losing out on his lunchtime.

It completely varies for me. It depends on the doctor, the time of day I go in and just dumb luck, I suppose. Sometimes I get there and I'm seen quickly and I'm gone in maybe 20 minutes. There have been other times when I'm at a doctor's office for close to 2 hours.

About 2 years ago I left the doctor that I have been seeing for nearly 19 years. His wait times were becoming ridiculous. I was with him when he first started his practice, when his records file wasn't even half a file storage box. He moved to a few different offices and I always stuck with him even though he was losing people moving around till he finally found a permanent place. The pass 7 years I'd say he has just become so big with so many freaking patients that you had to spend a good hour in the waiting room then another 20 mins in the room to see him. I eventually had enough of it as the last few times the waiting room time was closer to an hour and fifteen minutes.

I had brought it up many times to him and his staff but obviously no one cared, I only roughed it out those last few years simply do to being with him so long, but I finally caved and went looking for a new doc.

It sucks, he is a great doctor and nice guy, but I literally piss away a fair chunk of time in the day to see him, and when you are actually sick you don't want to be jerking off in some waiting room for so long.

Came in here thinking thread title was "how long do you usually wait to see your doctor [after you injure yourself/get sick/etc]". Cause I wait a long ass time... in fact I broke my finger and never went in (cause it's happened before and I'm a fucking man so I wrapped that shit up in a splint)... then it healed crooked. :(
