How long do you think the American civilization will last?

What's the difference between 'American Civilization' and 'American Society' ? I was just wondering to myself.
 
There are certain things that threaten civilization:

The bird flu (with the potential to kill hundreds of millions of people, this shouldn't be taken lightly).
Corporate hegemony, the idea that the government is essentially in the pockets of corporate interests, and place corporate interest ahead of the rights of the people.
Fundamentalism, the idea of rejecting human rights, due process, and tolerance in exchange for literal interpretations of religious texts.
Peak Oil, and the upcoming energy crisis. Civilization is currently powered by oil, and what if that runs out?
 
American civilization will last for nineteen days after they pass a law exempting manufacturers, distributers, and researchers of biological weapons of all liability if their "product" gets loose or is purchased and then misused.
 
We will be the one who drops the big one. This is building up as we speak. North Korea and Iran have been taunting us with their nuclear developements. We are not going to tolerate it. They, apparently, are not backing down. We will not allow this. My prediciton, is, that we will eliminate that threat. 😉

23 years. China invades Taiwan, US supports Taiwan. China is finally a respectable world power and the US has fallen in disfavor in world opinoin (sound that far off?). One billion Chinese invade first Taiwan and then other US interests in the Pacific. An all out invasion from the Chinese on American soil may be a little farfetched now but in twenty some-odd years China should be an equal or even surpass the US militarily given their current growth rate. Or maybe I've seen Red Dawn too many times.

There's no way to tell, but it certainly has a finite lifespan, just as all civilizations of the past have.
 
A very long time. Luckily we still have a few smart diligent kids continuing into science/engineering--working at weapons labs etc continuing our glorious military superiority. Culturally we are in the dumps. Almost everyone looking for quick buck, get rich quick scheme, not taking care of our own, scumbag anti social idolitry (50cents) etc which if anything will be our downfall. From within like they talk about with Rome. That already is happening. Some places in USA are like war zones. Others are impovershed as bad as some places I've seen in third world..
 
bird flu? if it were really a pandemic of sorts then only 20% of the population should be genetically favored to live... so if we go then everyone goes... im not too worried

the only thing we have to worry about is self implosion such as looking for the best outcome of anyone but us... yeah so i say 2000 years? by that time everyone will be beige tone and have dark hair when they are born 😉
