How long do you keep your cars?

Lets see:

first car - 1 year 6 months
second car - 2 years and 7 months
third car - 3 months
fourth car - 1 year and 6 months
fifth car - 1 year and 7 months
sixth car - 10 months
seventh - I've had for 7 months and I may be looking to get rid of it
eighth car - 2 months and it isn't going anywhere.

Average is about a year and a half but most of my cars have been $1k or less way less beaters that I keep till I get tired of and buy a different one. Current beater I have had 3 years though 89 turbo caravan, I like, and my mustang is about to hit 2 years.

10+ years, till they start falling apart.

The marketing folks can't convince me to waste that much money.

Last car I disposed of was a 91' Maxima & I donated it for the tax credit. It was 12 years old when I donated it.

Actually using up a car is one of the major ways to save big $.

I buy them new, and drive them about 10 years or 500,000 miles (not withstanding wrecks, or cratered mechanical failures) whichever comes first. (and yes I do drive over 50,000 a year)

Until it doesn't run anymore.

I never buy a new car. Don't really care what I drive, as long as the insurance is cheap, and I can pay for it in cash. I have a 91 Ford Escort 5 speed that I love. I have a 96 For escort, an 89 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 95 For F350. Have had them all for years, bought them all when they were 3-5 yrs old, and just keep them maintained.

🙂

my wife and i bought our only new car in Nov 1989 , Mazda Protoge. we still have it, i drive it to work in the winters (the A/C went out in 1999), it has about 180,000 miles and starts like it did the day we bought it

we have had other cars as well, some we have sold, but we only buy used cars now. we keep them a long time.
we also currently have a 1997 Saturn SC-1 (my other work car, it has A/C so i drive it in the summer) with about 175,000 miles and a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager with about 110,000 miles. i won't get another work car until the saturn dies.

the van has been a little flaky, so we might get rid of it for another newer van (but not 'new') in 1-2 years

driving new fancy cars wastes a lot of money

Not long enough probably. Three years has been about the maximum for me, but I'm looking for my next car to be more permanent.

I have a huge blue Jeep... Let me check...

Hmmm... The insurance card say... Jeep Cherokee Pioneer... and it is an 86, not 89.

Don't know what I was thinking..

sorry..my mistake. 🙂

The longest I had a car was a little over 7 years,

I sold it May 2004,it was a 1967 Camaro, I had done a little work on it every year,
and the car needed a paint job,which, 🙁 I couldn't afford.

Sold the car,and bought another old car, which I had wanted for over 20 years.

I bought a 1964 Valiant 2 door Hardtop,with the rare factory V8,273 cid.

I had been looking since 1976 for a 2 door Valiant V8,either a '64,or'65.

Neat little car,and with the V8 they scoot along good. 🙂

If you asking about "New" cars, and how often;I bought One car brand new,
and when the ex wife, and I split she got to keep the car.

Prob will not ever buy another brandnew car, perhaps an off lease one tho.
