My iphone 6 is getting quite laggy and I'm suffering from the lame battery issues that are widespread on apple phones. I'm thinking of just getting an aftermarket battery to install and stay with this phone for another year or 2.

I still have my OnePlus One and it works fine. I ugpraded to the OnePlus3T shortly after that came out, which was a massive upgrade. Still have the original as a backup / secondary device though.

Before these, I had the Samsung Galaxy S2 which was plagued with USB issues and eventually battery issues, upgraded to the original Samsung Galaxy Note which was laggy as hell from the factory, suffered similar issues as the S2 with USB, but remained usable for years later (gave it away to a relative when I upgraded to the S4, which was also plagued with issues and failed completely within 2 years). After my looking back at my experiences with Samsung devices, and seeing many friends with similar issues, I abandoned them. Haven't looked back since, my OnePlus devices have served me well.

I generally won't discard my devices unless there is a compelling reason.

Got a phone exactly like this one, since January 2007.
It works. I can call other people. They can call me. Texting also works. There is a watch built in, so I know what time it is. It's awesome. I don't need anything more fancy. The battery used to last over a week. Hopefully it'll continue working for another couple of years at least. But the battery is slowly getting worse. I fear I'll have to get me another phone in a few years.

You guys think you’re so special. I wish you could see me rolling my eyes.

I have a Nexus 5, over 3 years old. I replaced the usb port with a $9 one from eBay a while back. Thinking of getting a new phone soon.

That's how I felt until I got my first smartphone.

Going over 3 years on a used iPhone 4s. Battery life is just under a day with normal usage but I use less than 250 minutes of talk time a month.

To be honest, my employer gave me a smartphone, because. So I have 2 mobile phones, the old Nokia for personal use. And a Samsung Android (J5 I believe). I find the android phone way too large. And fragile. I can stick the little Nokia in a pocket in my jeans, and it won't bother me. I'm afraid the Samsung will break unless I am very careful with it. And I hardly see any need to carry the android around. It has no functions that I would miss if I didn't have it with me. Absolutely nothing.

Some old guy once said: Property is nuisance. And I fully agree. For decades I've been carrying around only a keyring with my housekey and carkey. And a small wallet. That is all. I refused to carry anything else with me. I hardly ever bring a jacket neither. Now I often need to carry 2 cellphones. That doesn't make me happy. Fvck progress.

The phone function is probably the least important function of my smartphone.

Motorola Support has become terrible. My Moto X Pure Edition only lasted 7 months.

I try to get phones to last 2-3 years.....more than anything, to save the landfills and my wallet....I've been paying out of pocket for my phones for years.

Does it have Bluetooth connectivity? That is one of the things a phone MUST have IMO... same with a car.

iPhone 5 lasted 3 years before it died. Closing in on 2 years with my iPhone 6s and it still feels like new (battery was recently replaced under warranty). I hope to get 4 years out of this thing.

I'd disagree with that. Sure it may not be used as much by many people, but it's still an essential feature of a smartphone. Otherwise we'd all just carry around small LTE enabled tablets instead.

Honestly I think I could manage with a dumb phone, though it would be nice to have at least browser functionality, but that's it. Considering all the spy/security concerns of smartphones I sometimes consider going with a dumbphone. I would kinda miss it though, but it's all stuff I could probably do without. I did it before.

The social aspect would probably be the hardest. When everyone is pulling their smart phones out checking something or taking pictures I'd be sitting there like an idiot with a dumbphone.

Yes. Indeed, I forgot about that. This phone allows me to do hands-free calling in my car. But again, the main thing I use my phone for, is to call people. For anything serious I have my desktop PC. Or my tablet. A phone is useless to me for anything except to call people.

Just replaced an iPhone 5. I had it for 4 years and a few months.I tried to change the battery and broke the clip that was holding it together. No big loss, it was pretty old.

Bought an iPhone SE 64GB off Ebay. Works fine and the hardware is several generations newer.
