I haven't had a physical in about 8-9 years, so I figured I was due to schedule an appointment. The closest time they could fit me in falls in the middle of November, approximately 6 weeks from today. Is it just me, or does that seem like a pretty long time to wait? How long are you guys waiting for exams?

Primary care? Same day, usually. Maybe tomorrow, if I don't request the appointment in the morning.

Specialists, usually 2-6 weeks depending on whether I want to go to the top recommended specialist or not.

I don't go as often as I should, but I typically get in the same week or early the next.

They keep saying there's a shortage of Doctor's.

The wait for a full physical (in the Boston area) was a little bit less than that...maybe a month. I called for a rash/infection and got one the next day with my doctor.

We have those insta-care places all over here. But if I want to get into my reg doc, it is like 2-3 days.

I don't know. The last exam I had was prior to entering the Air Force...back in 1984. :) Maybe I should go through the battery of tests you're suppose to get... just to make sure nothing serious is hiding and waiting to spring up and kill me. :)

I do know that it only takes about a week for my son to go in for his exam [required to play in sports].

For the family doctor? Depends. Routine check-ups, within a week. Urgent matters, usually same day.

Knee surgeon? 2 weeks to 10 months, depending on the asshats at the insurance company

Pain management doc? USUALLY within 30 days or less, again, depending on the fuck-sticks at the insurance company.

I needed a referral from my primary physician to go see a surgeon. I called yesterday around 3pm, and had an appointment today at 2:45pm.

For a check up it's usually my schedule that dictates when I get in. I can usually get in within the next few days if my schedule isn't crazy.

No such thing as check-ups or other routine matters in the U.S. that is why there is this whole health care debate going on.

It costs $900 to get a check up. That is not routine for most Americans unless you are rich.

For first time patients some doctor offices book longer appointments to allow time for a thorough medical history. Chances are these longer appointments aren't scheduled as frequently so maybe that is part of the delay.

To answer your question... my last physical was scheduled 4 business days out.

Medicaid reimbursement rates for pediatrics.

Standard well child check, which is exactly a routine checkup, is no where near $900

Other than pre-employement physicals, I haven't been to a doctor in quite a long time. Probably not since childhood, actually.

Boston area, primary care or internist:
urgent care = same day
minor problem or illness = 1-2 days
full physical = a few weeks to a month

Full physicals usually require at least 45 minute appointments, other matters usually 15-20 minutes. Most docs also leave open an hour or two for urgent care appointments daily, so they only schedule a few physicals per day.

with my primary care doctor? like a 3-7 day delay unless it's an emergency.
with my vascular surgeon guy it's more like 3+ months unless it's an emergency.

I go in for blood work every 3 months, though, so I always just make my next appointment when I go in for one (and my vascular stuff is just follow-up from my blood clot last year... my last appointment was in June and my next one isn't scheduled until December)

6 weeks+ is a typical wait time for the United States. Contrary to teabagging, the United States doesn't really have significantly shorter wait times.

stop being so poor or get a job that provides health insurance like the rest of us responsible adults had to do?
