For computer equipment, I usually just staple the receipt inside the manual or instructions and file it away. It's just easier if something goes wrong under the warranty period. So I guess I keep the receipt as long as I own the equipment.

The wife likes to keep receipts for just about everything for at least 6 months so we can trace where we spend our money for when we try to make out our budget.

At least here in Finland it's really hard to get a warranty replacement without the receipt... I keep them as long as I have the component(usually that's not a very long time, though...). At least it's much easier to sell a component with it.
I keep a file to store about all papers on everything I buy, it's also great to have some kind of awareness of how much money I've spent on computers, sportsgear, guns, guitars & other expensive kind of stuff.

Same things here... Too many receipts that it's hard to save them all. But for the on-line orders, I chuck them right away since you can always print up another copy.

hopefloats has a great idea.

- $200 and under, the receipts stays around until whenever store return policy ends (then heave-ho)
- Over $200 I dump in my 'receipts' drawer...Which I think I'll change over to the suggestion made by hopefloats.
