I'm going 6 years on my Dell XPS 1530 laptop, which is about normal lifespan for my laptops. This one might have a longer life since I upgraded it with an SSD, added 2 gb more of memory and it still runs really fast. Even most newer games still run fine on it (I got the graphics card upgrade when I bought it).
My 1530 still looks new, but it's about 6 months behind yours. I just replaced it with a Lenovo Y500, which I hope lasts just as long.

When I moved from my s754 athlon 64 3400+ single core to an Intel Core 2 Duo, the leap in performance was so gargantuan that only now am I considering replacing it. :) Good all around chip that old E6750.
I actually went all-out back then and got a socket 939 athlon64 x2 3800+ and 1.5GB DDR400 ram. The switch to a core2 system was simply because the cost of 4GB DDR was 4x as much as 8GB of DDR2 for a new system. The performance leap was not so substantial for me, but it was very welcome to get out of the finally ram-starved situation.

It was really fun using and OCing that thing, though!
I have a pic of the CPUz and prime95 burn-in but I am switching webhosts right now.

At least 5 years, possibly 10 years. I have an AthlonXP 3200+ desktop I built in 2004 that I still use occasionally. It's fully functional with Windows 7, an SSD, a 512MB AGP video card and 4GB of RAM. It runs a 22" 1920x1080 monitor, plays 1080 video, does all sorts of desktop tasks just fine. It doesn't play new games but who cares?

I built my current PC in 2010, I have no plans to replace it.
