The 3000 GT is a sick car. My friend has has one minus the twin-turbo, but its still great...

If you're nice to it, I'd give it another 50k miles. After that, you'll be replacing alot of very expensive items.

You can bet that he didn't mod that car just to drive it like a granny :)

If you drive like an old lady, it'll last just like any other car.

If you drive like there's no tommorow, the synchros on the tranny will give.

Chances are the cars already been driven hard...I wouldn't give it a year before you start having problems.

I have a 3000GT VR-4, and I've been absolutely thrilled with it -- 115,000 miles, no major issues, other than a cracked oil pan (a rock came up from the road, hit the oil pan and cracked it, very expensive). Keep in mind that you pretty much have to put Z-rated tires on it if you want to go all out, and those ain't cheap either. Start thinking $800 for tires that will last you 1 to 1 1/2 years.

Overall though, if you take care of the car it should last you..

Its a VR-4? The first thing to do is to find out how old and what gender the previous owner was. Chances are, if its a young male teen, he'll have driven into the ground.

The next thing to do would be to get a major inspection. Mitsubishi is generally known to be fairly unreliable.

I wouldn't get near a car that has been modded so heavily....I'd rather do the modding myself (even though I'm waaaayyyy past that stage of my life)...

honestly...that car is probably on its last leg..

I disagree. A well maintained Honda is barely broken in at 100k. ;)

As for the car.. I dunno. With 86k and all those performance mods, It's probably been driven like a race car.

Then again, he says the oil has been changed >3000 everytime, so maybe the engine internals are in decent condition.

As a 3000GT owner I can tell you that price seems kinda high. Go visit the 3SI Forums.
If it's somebody there that is selling it then chances are it was taken care of and not beat to death. Remember... mods do not add to the value of the car.
BTW some 3000GT/Stealth owners have over 250K miles without any serious maintenance done. The VR4s/TTs main weakpoint is the transmission though.
Also let me go ahead and ask these questions... because the guys @ 3si will. How old are you? Is this your first car? If you answered below 18 and yes to these questions then DO NOT buy the VR4... buy a Base/SL model if you must have one. These cars aren't for the inexperienced.

Says he had the tranny rebuilt, synchros on the original probably gave from a combination of poor manufacturing and/or abusive driving. A 90k Mitsubishi that's hopped up is going to last as long as a boobies link on Fark if you ask me. ;) BTW, 100k miles is nothing in Toyota years. :D

I learned how to drive manual on my friend's VR4... It was an experience like nothing else. The car is very unforgiving.

But, it handles better than any car I've ever driven. Plus, it handles awesome in the rain. No other car handles as well in the rain.

VR4s are erradic in terms of how long they last. I've seen them with 180,000 miles on them up for sale and others with only 30,000 and they're falling apart. It all depends on the owner.

BTW, your insurance will be VERY high. My friend's insurance (he is 20) was nearly $300 a month.

Not too long by my guess. It's a 92 and the hell has been modded out of it, and likely driven into the ground.
