How long do threads last....?

Anyone know how long a thread will last here on AT after people stop responding? I have seen people reference threads back from 2001 but when I search for a topic I only get results for about a month or 2 back....is this a benefit of subscribing?

so for those that have been here like 3, 4 yrs, they cant see there 3, or 4th post if they wanted to?
