I had a old 1993 Dell 15" monitor capable of 1024x768 (very good in those days!) - it's still running in the 1.2GHz Duron rig I donated to a family I know. Now, that might not be the case for all CRTs, but I expect quality ones should last at least a decade. Just don't buy refurbed for sure - I bought a 17" Sony Trinitron refurbed in 1997 only to have it die in late 1999 - I bought my 15" Samsung LCD and haven't had a problem since
