How long do eggs last?

oh, yeah, in the fridge they are good a month easy, don't worry until you get over 6/8 weeks

when i was in the navy, on the submarine, the cooks didn't keep the eggs in the refrigerator, not enough room

the eggs were kept in the bilge (lowest part of the ship against the hull), but considering the water we were normally in was ~35F i guess that was ok

Isn't the bilge usually full of water?

Stored them in the bilge or the fan rooms. Had eggs most of the patrols. 8-10 weeks.

No. If your bilge was full of water you had a problem. Some bilges got wet depending on what you were doing but they are quickly pumped dry.

I've ate several months old eggs with no ill effect. They last forever.

Uhh...

Excuse me while I tell you YOU'RE A FREAK!

😛

"Use by date" isn't always on there and I didn't feel like going out to grocery store just to finish the meal, so I used it anyway... mommy later told me they were from a few months ago. oh well.

and why not the door?
there is a thing specially made for eggs there !?!?

Yeah, I heard you're not supposed to use that egg holder because the temperature of the eggs constantly fluctuates as the door is opened and closed. That's why you should keep them on the inside where they will always be cold.

on older ships, yes

but on the Trident submarine, the "Dry bilge" concept was used. Tridents have drains for everything to collecting tanks , so if everything is working correctly, no water drains into the bilges. I think the main reason for this is extended life of the ship/hull and reduced maintenance of cleaning/chipping/repainting the bilges.

heh i get scarred about eggs if they are over a week old. when i was younger i got real sick from eating a egg that was a little old.

i can get eggs for $.30 a dozen for the extra large ones 🙂

granted im waisting them but ohwell it wont bankrupt me heh

Back when I went to cooking school....long time ago.... they told us a month, when in the fridge. Doubt it's changed much since.

They last for a long time..

If you break it open, and it smells funny... don't eat it. It's that simple.. lol

LOL.. Actually, if you broke an egg open and it was partially developed, you would see .. an otherwise normally looking egg.. with blood vessels all through it... Yum..
