How long do eggs last?

This guy plays it safe and uses them within a week.

This guy says 6 months is fine!

I have always assumed they lasted indefinately.
Right now I'm boiling some eggs that my parents left here when they evacuated because of Rita.

long time if they are kept cold. I've eaten them 1 or 2 months after the expiration Expiration dates on some things are bogus, it's just another way of marketing to make you think it's bad so you need to go buy more.

six months? I would say uhhhhh no! to that. Egg cartons have an experation date on them, I'm not sure how harmful it is to eat spoiled eggs. I could only imagine it would be some hellacious gas and squirts (if not worse) Egg's smell rotten to me to begin with so I'm not exactly sure how to tell if they are edible.

If the eggs are bad, you will know the moment you crack them open. Don't worry about it.

I have had eggs that are probably older than 6 months, lol.

second that.

They will last quite a while if stored properly, but it is said that every day at less than refrigerator temperature takes a WEEK off the life...

6 months?? No thanks. I wouldn't eat any egg past the printed date.

The printed date is mostly arbitrary. If it's been in the fridge, is not cracked, and it doesn't smell bad, it's fine.

I routinely eat them a month or two past the "expiration date". It just takes me that long to eat a dozen eggs. One important thing though, is to put them in the middle or back of the fridge. Never put eggs in or near the door (yes that includes those egg holders included on some models).

1 month... they don't go bad as easily because they're sealed from bacterias.

but it's easy to tell, one way is to drop it in water, if it floats, it is very rotten... if it stands on one end, it is semi rotten.

Usually within a week or two of the date on the carton. If you eat Hard Boiled eggs, once you boil them they do last a long time since they are already cooked.. But raw ones... ick.

Need to expand on this. Room temp water, warm, hot, cool, cold water?
