how long do checks take to clear?

I put some checks into my bank account on sunday... its now wednesday. I should be completely fine to use my debit card now shouldnt i? The debit card takes funds from my checking acct btw.
 
All depends on your bank and sometimes your history with the bank. Every check I deposit is credited immediately to my account regardless of if it is out of state or how large it is. This may be because I've never bounced a check, never have my balance below $800 or so, etc. The fine print on the deposit receipt does say that local checks drawn from a different bank may take 3 business days before funds are available, 7 days for out of town checks.
