How long do black eyes take to go away?

got a shiner last night. eye is pretty purple and puffy

how long am i going to have to suffer from this? is there anything else i can do for it besides ice?

Edit Day 4 swelling's down slightly, but the color and size of the bruising is deeeeeeeeeeeep purple. i still look like a damn fool

2-3 days.

If you actually comb it, yes comb it, it helps to disperse the dead veins (ie the bruise) and it'll dissappear faster.

Same applies for hickeys.

IIRC, 15-20 mins every 2-3 hours is what the doctor told me but that was for a sprained ankle.

i once had a bf try to hide a black eye from me by keeping his head turned to one side the whole time. that didn't last long.

after purple it's going to turn some lovely shades of green and yellow.

Iceing and heating packs should be 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off ideally. Remember to have a soft cloth or some other material between your skin and the pack.

never never NEVER put a hot or cold pack directly on the skin!

Most of my black eyes take about 5-7 days to heal.

hasn't affected my vision at all except when i look down things get a little impaired since i'm rubbing against the puffy area
