how long did it take you to adjust to a new environment?

for people with such an experience, how long did it take you to adjust to a new environment?

by new environment, i mean: moving to city after living in the country your whole life or vice versa, moving to a foreign country, boot camp, prison, etc.

what was your experience like?

Moving from gorgeous southern california 14 years ago to Portland, OR where rainfall is a factor, it took me 3 years to not get SAD each autumn. I don't mind the rain anymore.

Boot Camp: about 8 hours. They don't give you time to bemoan your situation.

For me, it was moving from a bad part of the state to a really good part. Where I used to live there were home invasions, drunk drivers, robberies and break-ins all the time. Where I live now, you could probably not lock your door and not have to worry about anything happening.

A couple of weeks. I even lived in like 8 different cities in Brazil over a few years span, and I adjusted in usually just a week. That includes going from a bustling city of 3 million people to a cow town with 5000 people.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. I'm addicted to constantly finding new environments now. It feels like an adventure.

Werd. I always wanted to go and teach english in Japan, but now I have other priorities. It sucks because I get antsy if I stay in any one place for too long.

Not very long. 1-3 weeks maybe. I've gone on trips alone to Europe when I was a teen, I've been to college, and I've moved across the country by myself when I was done with that.

I actually have a friend who wants me to go with him to teach english in China or Taiwan for half a year. It sounds like a blast to me. He lived in Taiwan for a few years and loved it.

Part of my addiction is the fact that I *feel like a somebody* in these places. Here in the states i'm just a normal white douche. In other countries I've been too, I'm the "Big white beautiful american with incredible blue eyes".
