Lust itself is not sin; what Jesus was saying is that lust cause sin, that it is the first step leading to sin. Rape, adultery, overindulgence- all begin with lust of the flesh or lust of the eyes. Does that mean you can be tempted and not sin? Yes, Jesus was tempted and did not sin, but that was because he is perfect (he is God) and knew no sin, but you and I cannot expect to not sin every time on our own; it just can't be done without God's help.
Masturbation is not sin in itself, and more than scratching your back is. It is the evil thoughts that are associated with it, and the addiction. It isolates individuals, and can have adverse affect in marriages. Why do you think people feel guilty when they first do it? It's not just because it is taboo or because it is ingrained from parents- which isn't always the case in some households- but it's your conscience telling you "hey, this is wrong". As with other sins, especially lying, people slowly deaden their conscience, and don't feel guilt when they sin, but that doesn't mean that it isn't sin. People think that the so called "small" sins like lying and disrespecting your parents isn't so bad, but the truth is those are the things that destroy and eat away at the foundation of society: the family. And when that foundation is attacked in a culture, like it is in this day and age, that is when man falls into the worst kind of depravity and evil.

Kids feel guilty when they first learn the ways of masturbation only because they don't understand what their bodies are telling them or where these urges are coming from. It's a biological thing, it has nothign to do with what God wants.

Yes, the people that get into heaven are those that repent, accept Jesus as their one and only savior, yes, I know. As the post above by rapidskies pointed out, the Bible doesn't explicitly state that masturbation is a sin. And by the way, humans aren't the only self-pleasuring species in the world. Masturbation is about the physical, not the mental. It's in our nature to lust, just like it's the nature for a rabbit to want to hump, or a horse, or whatever. Denying our own impulses is akin to denying our humanity.

Our "humanity", or "flesh" is what I think you are specifically referring to, is animal-like and we should not be like animals, killing each other for territory, and raping each other, as animals do. Yes, we are limited by our bodies in this world, and because of the fall our bodies are impefect, but we are also made up of a spirit (soul) and mind, which makes us higher than animals. God did not intend for us to be like monkeys or horses or whatever other animals you wnat to refer to.

But, of course, all normal relationships, even between good christians, probably start out with at least some amount of lust--so lust can lead to marriage as well. And we couldn't very well be fruitful and multiply, as directed, without lust.
Unfortunately, the basis of that point relies on proof of a spirit, a soul, and God's intention. And as for proof of God's intention, the writings (the Bible) of fallible humans translated and copied a thousand times over by hand (which pretty much guarantees some type of transcription/translation error) don't count.

I'm somewhat of an atheistic individual - or I guess very eclectic in my beliefs, ie. a little of this and that, somehow unified in the belief that there is a single supreme being. That and past ancestors watching over my shoulder I didn't read this entire thread, but to answer the OP - self control is the answer.
Apparently it's easier for some than others, but I've never ever had a lusting (as you put it) issue and I've never cheated.

You don't need proof of a soul to realize that you are different from an animal, though evolutional theory seeks to take away that distinction. As for the Bible, yes humans are fallible, and the Bible has been translated many times and is not the exact same words due to loss in translation. But through the Holy Spirit, the Bible is mostly the same as it was when it was first compiled; it is only important that the essence of and the meanings behind the actual scriptures remains the same even if a word is mistranslated. Even then it is remarkable how unchanged it is over several thousand years from the Septuagint, Masoretic, and other texts.

The argument that the scriptures were translated and copied a thousand times and are therefore inaccurate is virtually null. If it were translated 1000 times linearly, the argument may have something to stand on.
Take the American Standard version for example (AKA revised version in later editions). The translators took the King James version and compared it with the Vulgate and many manuscripts, including the oldest known manuscripts. Preference was given to the older sources and those genereally accepted by the Jews in former times. (I'm at my dad's right now so I can check the editor's notes for accuracy in my statements later, if you'd like.)
Now some versions are not to be completely trusted, such as the New International version. The NIV is missing some verses that are included in other versions and I have not seen any reasoning behind this decision.
Answer one: Man are not suppose to contain himself sexually, or they will turn out like the priests/animals who molest kids. *Note, their justifications for their actions are some what similar to your ability to infer.
Answer two: move to Alabama, Mississippi,New Hampshire. It is possible to marry a kid 13-14 years old (WTF? again, to infer that the 13-15 year old kids can make a competent decision about something like marriage? More often, such instances are arranged marriages ).
Answer three: I think you are either on drugs or you were enclaved in a horror home.
If you make your own "God intended" interpretations, why bother joining? WHy not just make your own crazy "God's intentions" so you can be happy.
