I took out some frozen chicken (leg/thighs) to defrost last night at 12:30 AM. I was going to put it back in the refrigerator this morning, but I forgot. Now I'm at work and won't be home until 5:30 PM (17 hours unrefrigerated). Should I just throw it out?

Stupid stupid me.

Throw it away.
never defrost something at room temperature, always in the refrigerator. Bacteria grows between 41 and 140 degrees fahrenheit, with 70 to 120 degrees fahrenheit environments allowing the most rapid growth.

yep, if you need a quick defrost just use warm water, but dont just let it sit out.

Is this one of those trick questions like "how far can you walk into the forest?"

Stopping by the grocery store and getting some refrigerated but not frozen chicken after work isn't possible?
