How long can a 10 year old German Shephard bark?

I have some new next door neighbors in my townhouse. They have a 10 year old German Shephard and he has been barking continuously since they left the house this morning at 9am, it is now 5pm. I have noticed the bark has become horser and more high pitched, but it's still pretty respectable.

Obviously the dog is unsure of it's new surroundings? How long do you think this will go on? I'm hoping somebody with dog experience can tell me there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

 
Till you cant stand it any more, call the owners, the pound and then you are the BAD GUY!

OMG! Months? I definitely don't want to call the pound or anything, but I don't think I can last months. I'm thinking I can last a week or so, tops.

BTW, he's going CRAZY right now. Probably like 3 barks per second for 10 seconds and then a 3 second break, then back on again. Really quite amazing how persistant animals can be.
 
Yeah, talk to the neighbors first and hope they are reasonable. I used to work nights and try to sleep days so I know how bad it can get.

If you rent you can always try talking to the landlord also.

Authorities are the last resort but sometimes................................

Lets just say the dog will last longer than you will. 😉

Get a tape recorder and some really long tapes, record, play back for them to show them what their dog is going through during the day. Failing that, play it back at night.
 
My 8yr old will start barking at absolutely nothing until I come outside. They do this for attention sometimes. Also they are territorial and very protective by nature. Your neighbor's dog may be seeing someone/thing he doesn't like.

Be sure to use a really big stereo to play the tapes back. 🙂

You need to approach your neighbors and tell them the problem, and that you don't want to complain to the landlord or homeowners association.

You might suggest a citronella collar. Some people don't like them, but they can be very effective and don't hurt the dog. Thats what a co-worker of mine did. Her dog started barking in her new house when she was at work, and the neighbors approached her. She didn't get offended and fixed the problem.

Then again - some dog-owners can be inconsiderate jerks...in that case go to your HOA.
 
He stopped when they got home around 7pm last night.

It's 11am and he's been at it since they left....
