how long before we have reality shows like the one in "The Running Man"?

After seeing the commercials for Combat Missions, the Chamber, and the Chair, a couple of my friends and I were discussing this...seems kinda eerie how close we're getting to that 1980s Schwartzeneggar movie.

I don't know, something tells me that Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament may not be THAT far fetched at all. At this rate, i figgur we'll have real, publicized deathmatches in a matter of years 😛

When capital punishment and Hollywood make strange bedfellows, next on Oprah!

I don't know when but Fear Factor, as lame as it really was, got closer to the edge than anything I've seen to date. For the love of Sam, people actually got injured (on-screen scratches and bloodying) on that show! 😀 I purposely missed the Chamber and the Chair this week so I don't know how those are.

Shiva, did you know how to spell "Schwartzeneggar" or did you have to look it up? Be honest.

We're actually acting out the Running Man right now only none of you realize you're in a game.

"Dhis was shub-zhero. Now, phlain zhero!"

ROFL that was the correct spelling? Honestly it was a total guess...I pretty much expected a flame or two by some NEF who would point it out to me.

glad I'm not the only one who feels this way...I'm sure once peoples morals deteriorate a little bit more ( like one or two more generations) shows like the running man will become common place. Reality TV already shows there's a lot of interest in something thats not rehearsed.

When, not really sure, but it would be cool to see people run for their lives and it be "true." The show would prob be filmed out in some remote island before it would be legal. If there was one it would at least triple the wwf's money.

tips - - if they make one and it starts off good buy stock! LOL

I wouldn't be surprised if something like the running man became a reality. The really weird thing is that people are actually more interested in reality shows which will further feed the need for something on the edge.

I don't know if anybody else has noticed or even cares, but what happen to the Romans is happening to us.

It's kinda sad. 🙁

well its a common misconception of what a gladiators life entailed. The movie Gladiator was actually highly inaccurate. Real gladiators only died on the field about 1 in 10 fights. It happened now and then, but the goal wasn't for one to kill the other. Defeat was not measured by death.

And gladiators that performed for people were always well trained, they never put in weakling slaves that pissed their pants on the field. It wouldn't be very entertaining to see someone just get butchered while they're cowering in fear. The Romans were not as barbaric as you might think.

Read up on it, you'll find out some good information.

Hehe, the "breakdown of society" has indeed been noticed by a few other people. I for one, do not care. Given the atrocities that have been, and continue to be commited by the human race, a few people being off'ed on some gameshow is small potatoes.

A friend explained the Chamber to me. All I could think was how people will allow networks to do something to them that the govt. can't do to prisoners.

I'm trying to sell Fox on an idea about a game show like that. If you answer 2 wrong questions, you have to join AOL forums and post there for a year. How horrible, maybe it's too much. :disgust:

Except of course when they threw Christians in there.

And on the topic, It could be a slippery slope down the hill of reality TV to the point of seeing real people die on TV for money or some nice parting gifts

I am sure if they made a show where people had to deal with the chance of dying, but the cash payout was say 10 million dollars...there'd be people that would do it.

There's plenty of people in the world who have no family and know only war and fighting...those people could easily be exploited.

we should just throw all the captured Taliban into an arena armed with only scimitars. Then they can try to go jihad on some of our highly trained green berets.
We'll call it "The War on Terrorism"

oh wait...😕
