How long before P3's will o/c easily to 1.1ghz+??

I'm currently running a c2566@850, i need atleast 1.1ghz b4 i can justify an upgrade😛 I do have pc133 running at asynch 100/133mhz clock🙂

Overclocking merely reveals the true potential of chips that have been sold at a lower speed grade for production/marketing reasons.

Strange, but true.

With that in mind I doubt that we will ever see a decent percentage of P3e's that will reach 1100 with conventional cooling. Intel can't do it, so I strongly suspect that ~1000 is the upper limit for the current architecture.

I've had 2 700E cC0 out of about 30 do 1.1 with air cooling. Haven't had anything like that in a long time.

and in order to upgrade to a tbird i have to sell my asus p3v4x/c566@850mhz combo🙁 wonder how much i could get for it.

They shouldn't need to shrink the die on the P3 anymore... The have the P4 now. The P3 is pretty much history.

"wonder how much i could get for it. "

Figure around $90 for the MB and less than $90 for the CPU.

I just sold the same MB for $90, and I sold a C2 cC0 600@900 for $91. Plus figure in the fact that your CPU needs 2V (at least thats wuts it says in your sig part) to run stable at 850, is yours a cB0 or a cC0?

The D0 stepping for the .18Mu processors will be when Intel releases the PIII's at 1.13Ghz. That is the interim until Tualatin comes out. Sporting 200Mhz FSB and .13Mu mfg process it should scale to 1.5Ghz. No one knows yet. Tualatin isn't expected until Q32001, however with AMD slapping them around in the prices and bang for your buck, I would expect it sooner. D0 stepping should be out in 2 months or so. Not sure though. Info is very sketchy.

hmm 200mhz fsb?? I guess that means only new motherboards could take that. Arghh, another upgrade dead end i guess😛

As for my cellys stepping, i don't know🙁.. never bothered to look.

The 200MHZ FSB ones will be a chipset entitled the i815 (w/B-Step). And becase they are lower mu mfg, they will run at a lower voltage too.

I have an Abit SA6R, I815E chipset, with onboard Raid, and it is a very nice stable motherboard. The FSB range on it goes to 250MHZ, so I am sure it is designed for future processors in the PIII category. Will the new processors require DDR? Who knows at this point. But if you need 1.1GHZ in an Intel platform you can get pretty darn close.. I am running a cc0 PIII 700 at 1050 and can run 2D and 3D just fine. Just a tad off your objective but at a reasonable price point and a very sound solution and extremely fast IDE raid. Something to think about.. 🙂

"The FSB range on it goes to 250MHZ, so I am sure it is designed for future processors in the PIII category."

True but the necessary dividors for PCI and AGP aren't there, the PCI and AGP are totally out of spec

hmm i wonder if there'll be a board where i can run at FSBs below 200
I got a 550e doing 850 with 155mhz FSB, which is my mobo max...and I'm just curious as to how much further it could go
