Once you're almost done with the milk, take the jug out and let it sit for a week.... till the jug poofs out a bit.
Then unscrew the cap and take a wiff.

The milk is fine till it smells like that.

Try a sip of it first. I ate quite a bit of pretty bad milk with Golden Grahams before I noticed - they've very good at masking the flavor.
