How likely that my PC2100 will to PC2700?

I've got 2 sticks of 256mb PC2100 Crucial DDR that I've been running for a while now, but I've been thinking of upgrading to one of the new Barton core Athlons running the on the 166mhz bus instead of 133. Will I probably be able to use this PC2100 ram, or it is likely that I'll have to buy new ram? Thanks.

lower the strobe timings and it'll probably work fine, espcially if you up the voltage a bit. but who knows.

I consider that you ask this question because money could be a factor (when isn't it?)...If that's the case, DO NOT even try. Go sell those PC2100s and get all the money you could (You obviously know of the FS/FT forums) possably get for them, and go treat yourself to ram that's meant to be run at those speeds!

...And, btw, enjoy the upgrade!

yup....my crucial PC2100 does 333MHz at 2/3/3/5 at default voltage. I think it craps out at 344MHz at these settings. Bought in June 2002.

Why not just sell the PC2100 and buy some PC2700 or PC3000?? I know you won't get a dollar for dollar match but you could probably sell it and be fairly close.

Which of your 3 rigs are you thinking of upgrading?

Going from a 2100MHz machine to a 1830MHz Barton (that's a Barton 2500) isn't going to accomplish anything even going to a 2800 or 3200 is barely going to do anything for you.

I run my PC 2100 from crucial 181 mhz, 362 DDR 2.5, 2,2, 7 I can have it run with a tras of 5 but tRas should be CAS + CAS to RAS + 2 for best performance and least likelyness of HDD coruption but they don't make a 6.5 setting so 7 it is =) btw vdimm is at 2.8

This is just me, but...

It would seem that it is not a 2100MHz machine. It looks like it is a 2100+, after-all he's working with PC2100 ram is curious if his ram can run at 2700 speeds. So, let's see...

He's running his memory at 133MHz, so in order to get his processor to 2100MHz his multiplier would have to be 15.5 Which just wouldn't make much sense in the world of overclocking, which the goal is to get the FSB as high as possable.
