My old roommate has an LG FlatTron 17" and he loves it, it is a Trinitron tube, not DiamondTron BTW (Personally I like the Trini's quite a bit better, but I suppose that's personal opinion)

he says it looks great and they are fairly inexpensive to.

Actually, the Flatron is not a Trinitron monitor. Flatron is a proprietary tecnology. Only LG makes them. They are trully flat, at the expense of having the outter edges a bit out of focus. But it's still very sharp.

And since it was considerably cheaper than the Sony E-200, my LG was a great buy.

the 775FT is *not* a trinitron?

are you sure? The guy he bought it from told him it was a Trinitron, and he is usually pretty up to speed on that kind of stuff (this is a small retail shop we know the guy pretty well, it's not a like a best buy salesman or anything). I'm not saying he can't be wrong or anything, I'm just wondering if you are quite sure that it's not trinitron.

All of the monitors you are discussing are Aperture grill monitors. Aperture grill is the generic term for Trinitron CRT's. Sony first developed and patented Aperture grill technology and calls it "Trinitron". Trinitron is a trademark of Sony and can only be used with their permission. Mitsubishi licensed the technology and developed "Diamontron". Basically any model, or brand with "Tron" in its name uses an aperture grill CRT.

Sony's patent has expired and companies like LG have developed their own versions of aperture grill CRT's. If the monitor uses FD Trinitron, it is a Sony CRT, if it uses Flattron it is an LG CRT, if it uses a Natural Flat it is a Mitsubishi CRT.

The LG Flattron CRT is unique in that it the only truly flat CRT that I know of on the market today. By truly flat I mean it is flat on the outside and inside. All of the other so-called flat CRT's Sony FD Trinitron for example is flat on the outside and curved on the inside. In real basic terms they simply added a piece of flat glass to the front. The only real benefit that I have found with flat faced CRT's, is some slight glare reduction.

Good Luck

I think the LG Flatrons also lack the famous AG "guide wires". On Trinitrons and Diamondtrons there are one or two thin black horizontal lines running across the screen to stabilize the aperture grill. They are especially apparent on bright white backgrounds. Some people (like myself) don't even notice them unless actively looking for them, and some people are really bothered by them.

That might be one advantage to the LG over the KDS.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You are correct. The LG CRT does not have the shadows from the horizontal damping wires all aperture grill monitors have. I need to correct myself. Not all monitors with "Tron" in their name are aperture grill. The LG tube is the exception. The LG tube uses slot mask technology simular to the NEC slot mask CRTs. For details on the differences in Aperture grill, Shadow Mask and slot mask tubes see the following link.

Sorry for the confusion, I should check my facts before I say something.

I decided to get the 775FT Flatron. I also think, It has no two line like other Flat one have. I like that feature.

If you can afford it, get the LG 795ftplus. It has higher refresh rates, and I believe a slightly better tube.

It's a beautiful monitor.

check this 795ft review
