How Is Your Old (1 YR +) Smartphone Holding Up?

How do some of you get new phones every 6 months? Are you really paying full retail for these phones?

My Droid 1 is holding out pretty well btw. It's a little laggy every once in a while, otherwise it's great!

Ill echo the sentiments of the Droid incredible crowd. Functions great and with CM7 and chad's kernel its stable and has improved battery life. In fact the phone itself appears to be in good condition, hardly a scratch or a nick on the thing and thats without ever using a case or a screen protector. It should continue to serve me well until the Bionic/SGII get released.

I recommend one-click root with Super One Click then install Cyanogen Mod 7.
No more lag. And much more useful. Only downside is you have to manually install the normal Google apps because legally they cant include it. Its free and easy but it still needs to be done. Then you get the regular app market and life is gravy.

I know some of you have a strong opinion of the original Palm Pre, but the platform is 2 years old now and I still love it! I have yet to see a single phone that I like as much as the Pre. It has 256mb of ram, and an original 500mhz processor, but the open source community has been embraced by Palm/HP and I have mine overclocked to 1ghz and lots of patches. It makes the phone so smooth and easy to use. I don't see myself changing any time soon. Although I may not be a good example, I haven't had a contract since my first cell phone, so I opt to buy my phones outright.

Still use my Droid 1. Works fine for everything I do with it, including a little netflix action. Pretty good device.

My Droid 1 has a few scratches, but for the most part is OK. Performance though feels slower than molasses. Doesn't seem flashing new ROM's make it much better. Have an upgrade available, but nothing out I want to spend money on.

Same here. Incredible 2 seems nice...but my upgrade is in December...will see what WP7 phones are available then as well. If it was to be Android it would have to be dual core, 4G, and good battery life 😛

I stuck it out with my Vibrant cause man I love that 4" SAMOLED display. Now, I'm running a completely stock CM7 rom with a custom kernel built by a member of Team Whiskey, and it seriously blows away any other rom I've tried on here.

But I'm ready to move on, and next month I'll be eligible for an upgrade at 2 year pricing, so I'm eying either the Sensation (4"+ qHD) or MTSlide 4G (keyboard + "lag-free" camera).

Mine got faster with CM7. Whats up with yours?

Another happy Incredible owner. Also running CM7 RC1, and it is just as nice now as it was last year. WiFi is awesome on this thing.........

Vibrant user here. I've been through two cases for the phone, no hardware problems at all (not counting the not-so-great GPS).

My iPhone 3GS is still doing fairly well overall. No real complaints except I mirror the opinion on its terrible camera!

But you also don't sell them. 🙂 I bet you have some pretty interesting opinions on how the phones in your sig aged...

IMHO, the EVO and HD2 have become awesome with the developer support, the EVO is nearly a perfect phone now with the right ROM. The HD2 was and is insane, what OS hasn't been ported to it?

The Incredible is pretty good, but battery life is miserable, and to put an extended battery on a slim phone like that is awful.

I'm pretty sure I could actually kill someone with the orig Droid, wing it at someone's head, and if you hit the right spot, they're dead, seriously... It's a great phone too.

The nexus one is still pretty amazing, build quality was good, and it looks great.

Still not sure about next device, need to eBay some of the damn things...

BTW, the nook color is flipping bulletproof, I've dropped it a dozen times onto tile and concrete, it just scuffs up a bit but doesn't break. (best bargain out of the bunch too)

got my droidX in like feb, its holding on strong. hell, i still use my old winmo omnia on wifi and it still holds a charge all day and better. getting ready to flash winmo 6.5 on it to play around. so far that phone is bulletproof

My X is still good as new.

The battery charge is starting to wane a bit, but I still get through a day no problem.

When I first got it I would get home with 80-90% and now its 50-60%.

My launch EVO is great. Light wear scratches by the uUSB, a well dinged zaggs screen cover also from launch, no noticeable battery life wear.

My launch X is holding up very well in a thin $4 hard case. The old demo of a guy raking his keys against a gorilla glass screen was spot-on--no damage. GB seems to be causing some reboots in my phone, whereas Froyo was very solid. Not sure what to make of that. If Moto stays true to their word and actually unlocks the bootloader, I'll probably play with CM7. Otherwise, it does everything I want with only a little lag if I've got a lot going on at once.

Picked up an Evo on launch day last year and it's still an awesome phone. It was starting to feel old/sluggish a few months ago so I put CM7 on it and bam, new phone.

I have the 3GS and it's held up great for me after 2 years. I'm due for an upgrade now but I'm not even sure I'll be upgrading when the 5 comes out.

yeah I just got the paypal app which lets you cash checks by snapping a photo, but the 3GS camera is so bad it doesn't work right.

ive got an HTC desire, which I got about 9 months ago. at the time us cellular had the mesmerize (galaxy s) which i passed over due to size. i half wish i had it, because internal storage on the desire is very limited, but in general im still extremely happy with the phone.

im not in a hurry to upgrade it, it handles everything i want in a smartphone right now.
