How is your computer plugged in?

I never run a computer without a UPS. If it's a laptop I at least use a surge protector. I've learned my lesson one too many times :Q

My primary desktop is plugged into my UPS. I don't think my secondary machine is, though. I think that's just plugged into a surge protector. And I have another surge protector under the end table beside my recliner for plugging my laptop into.

6-outlet surge protector. So far we haven't had anything go wrong, so there haven't been any situations to justify a UPS. Maybe when I get owned I'll reconsider.

My main rig/monitor/etc are plugged into an 8port UPS.

My laptop is plugged into... well, whatever is closest to it b/c it often moves around and I don't want to carry a surge protector with me.

I've found that putting the prongs into the corresponding slots works best...

If the computer is plugged into a standard 6-outlet power stip/surge protector which is >3 years old so that it no longer has any surge protection abilites, where do we vote? All of my computers at home, work, or even the school I sometimes work at fit this description. People (me included) don't usually get rid of surge protectors when they have used up all of their protection abilities.

Might as well just vote the first option. It still IS a 6-outlet power strip after all. :p

LOL - who cares about surge-protecting abilities - I just use them for the extra outlets!

240V socket on the floor. Isolated ground and dedicated line just for computers. Who needs a UPS? People that trip over damn power cords, that's who!

Yeah I read an article on that a week or two ago. How are you to tell that it has no surge protection ability left? Is it just roughly average that over 3 years it will experience enough surges to wear the mechanism?

Not that it matters... I'm using a standard 6-outlet strip that was around when I had my P166 and maybe earlier. Probably took a good beating at my college house and its crappy wiring such that I needed to run every thing I had from that strip (computer, guitar were the biggest).

Ah well as with most other people I'm not too concerned. I guess I'll get burned for it sometime. I'd guess house insurance would pay for damages possibly?

Surprised at the number of UPS users in the poll tho!

APC UPS with coax surge protection.

Remember people, protect your data lines or every component in your PC could be at risk.
