some benchmarks show that win7 is a bit slower than vista lol! but i guess that is a matter of driver issues...

and I mean slower by 1 frame in tons of frame rate lol

dont you people see how easy is to make an OS this days.... take Windows Vista, then in the files or dll's of the system you press F2 and then delete Vista and write down the number 7...

I've only been using the RTM for about a week, but I already prefer it to Vista, and I've never had any Vista issues in the two years I've been using it. Being able to pin the task manager to the task bar has pretty much made my day. I have had a few BSODs, but I think it's more of a heat issue than a OS issue, and it hasn't happened in any games, only while encoding.

Everyone knows that Vista was just the Beta test for Win 7. Thanks to all you hardworking testers!

And here I thought it was their attempt to finally steal market share from XP!

Quite a few users have already left XP or using other operating systems like Vista,Win7,Linux etc...main problem with XP was that it had been around too long before they released another new OS,if Microsoft have kept to a 3 year cycle then we would of seen another new OS way back in 2004,2007,2010...remember XP was officially released back in 2001 now that is a very long time ago by anyones standard.

Btw I removed XP from my oldest PC awhile ago, only got Vista and Win7 now on all my PCs.

Title topic says "How is Win7 for gaming" well remember that both Vista and Win7 have had improvements to the kernel system to improve stability in gaming and general use etc... driver wise .

I skipped Vista: early problems, plus Win7 on the horizon and no burning need. Quite happy with Win7, have very few issues, most games are working well. I have even seen a few dx10 goodies in Stalker and Call of Juarez.

My audio production computer is still on XP though: Vista would have required hundreds of dollars in additional software and hardware upgrades.

I can understand where cost is involved,to be honest used XP,Vista etc from day one,XP was bit of a nightmare in early days for those that can remember with drivers,BSOD etc...(way before SP1)..Vista personally had no issues(used it for a lot of beta games testing) but from SP1 onwards very solid for lot of people ,Win7 only issues is drivers for me at the moment but then its not officially released so can't blame Win7.

Looking forward to Win8 to see what new ideas and changes they make(hopefully for the better).

I am usually a late adopter: I switched from W98 after SP2. ;)

Win7, being strongly based on Vista, seems to have much of the kinks worked out, and I could get it early on, so I did. Nice to move up to 64bit as well. I did a dirty install as a test, and so far, it has behaved well. I keep most of my games on D drive anyway.

I certainly endorse the move so far, and as an OS curmudgeon, that should carry some cranky weight!

I jump straight in,so far nothing has got broke ;) I find it funny with the FUD that comes out with every new OS and I'm talking about way before Vista,ie when XP was released 2K users had a good stab at it etc...those very old AT members here will remember the AT threads etc...

The only problem I've had in the W7 RC 64-bit in regards to gaming is that the Crysis demo gives me fits and crashes randomly and often. However, it is a 2 year old demo with no patches that can be applied to it, so maybe that's part of the problem. Other than that, I've had no problems with games like Sims 3, Cryostasis, Arkham Asylum, etc.

I'm the same way. I remember the hubbub when XP was released, and I'm only 19. I've been running Vista x64 happily since before SP1 and besides a few x64-related issues, I've had nothing go wrong. I can't stand the number of people who say how crappy Vista is compared to XP, especially when I ask them and they say they've never actually tried it.

I haven't played much.

Steam (TF2 / Portal) and Sins of a Solar Empire. Haven't had issue with either program.

There is a MMO Baseball game made by a korean company I wanted to try out. That didn't work in Windows 7 (or vista) - It requires some access that isn't allowed in Vista/7 I guess and they haven't patched for it (or wont).

I didn't run into too many issues playing wow - but I haven't played in awhile and Didn't run very many addons when I did.
