How is Wester Digitals RMA service?

I just helped out a buddy and got him with a good system. Then all of a sudden i got the click of death on his new western digital SE 80 gig. Talk about pissed, we were soooo bummed. We were wondering if you could give your CC # and they ship first. Thanks for your reponses..

Support is flaky, but works.
I sent back a month ago a 80 giger, and somewhy (after receiving the package), WD sent the same defective HD back to me. I paid 50 bucks for international shipping, and was quite outraged. It took me three e-mails for the service rep to understand my situation (they kept me sending the same "pre-formated message). But eventually, I got through to them and they sent me a new drive (without me having to re-ship mine).

Should arrive here tomorrow ... I'll tell you how it goes.

EDIT: Damn! I can't believe I said somewhy ...

Did you request a RMA # first? If you don't have RMA # on the package, manufacturer will just return your package. This is the American way of handling defective product. If you're not in the US and buy an US brand product, you should deal with your local dealer or distributor but may take a longer time.

I'm quiet aware how RMAs work. :)
I wrote the RMA number on the three sides of the package and all. There was simply no explanantion on why it was sent back (they were changing warehouses, so that might be the cause).

Darn. My return is lost here in Brazil. DHL messed it up and sent it thousand of miles away, when it was just a couple of miles from my house. So it'll probably arrive tomorrow. :(
