Everyone keeps talking about Mount Tremblant but I wonder why? I mean it gets less snow that the resorts in Vermont/Maine. Hell, I have friend who just will not shut up about Tremblant.

So why is it so much better than anything else on the East Coast?

Whistler and Blackcomb rule my skiing world! 😀

If you like those you should check out Fernie about 2-3 hours west of Calgary.......... it's supposed to be the new Whistler 😀

Cheers,

Personally, I find Tremblant WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too crowded for my tastes. If I was going to Quebec again, i'd go to Mont-Ste-Anne or Le Massif before I went to Tremblant again.

It has a really nice village and some good terrain, but the crowds kill it for me.

BTW, for kick ass travel packages to any major Canadian resort, check out Skican.

They've been in business for years, and as Canada's largest ski vacation operator, they have really great prices.

So basically Tremblant is the Killington of the Quebec resorts?

Exactly. If you don't like crowded slopes and liftlines, (especially on weekends/holidays) Tremblant is not for you.

Noooooooo no no.

Don't go to Whistler/Blackcomb/Tremblant or any of the major ones. There are just as big a mountains with a LOT less traffic...
If you are going out west, go to FERNIE, KICKING HORSE, LAKE LOUISE! Some of the biggest powder runs in Canada without going heli.

If you wanted to go to Quebec/Tremblant, go to Mont Sainte Annes. I'm going there this winter.. (stuck in ontario.. baaad)

Well, seeing as how I live in Quebec I may as well drop a few comments on this.
Although, I'm not much of a skier, I have been to Tremblan. The hill is nice, the village is great, but it's pretty crowded.
I hear that Ste-Anne is about the same level as Tremblant, minus the village.

JustinSimpson, beware of "frenchies" 🙂| 😉 ) . Many of them, especially near Montreal, are bilingual, they will understand what you're saying, and make fun of you in French as you try to figure out what they're talking about 😉

Louise is nice.

sunshine usually has more powder, but it can be windy as hell.

it really depends though. Weather changes instantly in the mountains.

If you are planning on skiing in BC, Canada, you should check out Big White in Kelowna, Whistler in Vancouver, Cypress is sometimes pretty good. Personally my favorite is Big White, just cause it is close to home, and it is a fair size. Silver star is also not too bad, a little smaller though.

Tremblant has really nice terrain and a great village. As for it being crowded, I've been to
Tremblant twice (both times for a few days) and have never noticed it to be any more
crowded than any other reasonably popular ski resort. As long as you visit during the week,
and not a week that's a major holiday, you shouldn't have any problems with crowds.

The real problems with Tremblant are snow (the whole east got very little snow last winter),
the cold (the south face is totally exposed making the windchill factor sometimes quite nasty)
and by far the worst, price. For some reason almost everything at Tremblant costs within
5-10% of Whistler - when the two places don't compare.

Personally I prefer MSA over Tremblant. Le Massif.... ugh, unless someone's invested a ton
$$$ into that place since about '99/'00 to fix its many problems, I'd highly recommend that
people avoid that s@#&hole. Imagine a place where you can only get to the base of the
mountain by skiing through a mogul run and you'll begin to get the idea. If you're hardcore,
ski "Le 42" and then make a b-line back to MSA. In Quebec, I'd definitely place Stoneham,
Mount Saint-Sauveur/Mont Avila and several places in the Eastern Townships ahead of Massif.

Don't go to Le Massif because it is waay too underdeveloped (plus, it's about an hour from Quebec City).

Mont Ste-Anne though is the place to go! Quite high mountain (higher than Tremblant if I recall), nice village and you'll be close to Quebec City (I garantee you that you'll find Quebec much more exotic than Montreal, especially in winter). If you have a car (or rent one), you will be able to sleep in the city and drive to Ste-Anne in the morning to ski (that way, you can enjoy the nightlife in Vieux-Quebec).

Tremblant is just over-hyped because it is close to Montreal.

It would be around 120 CDN$ per night to sleep in one of the real nice hotels (that makes it around 80 US$). But you do have to drive 45 minutes to go to Ste-Anne...

Still worth it I think!!! 🙂
