How is the NF7-S motherboard? *Update: It's on it's way!*

I am sick of the problems on my old Asus A7N8X-X and am RMA'ing it for a refund. Now my question is, what is a solid K7 motherboard and is stable and a good overclocker.

I'm currently looking at the A7N8X-Deluxe or the Abit NF7 and I want to know which one is better.

Thank you!

That looks like a solid bet and it's a whole lot cheaper then the Asus A7N8X-Deluxe.

It's definitely worth it :) It's a very solid board, great overclocking features, Soundstorm audio, etc etc :)

I love my A7N8X DLX it performs really well and I have never had a problem with it. The NF7-S is a great board aswell and has pretty much the same features as the Asus so its really personaly preference. If price matters go for the Abit. Either would be a great choice.

I think the newer board they Abit has is the AN7, pretty much a NF7-S with Windows overclocking utilities. I remember a few days back newegg had the boards for pretty much the same price, definitely worth looking into.

I've seen more bad than good about the AN7 so far... The AN7 is not a solid board yet, maybe on Rev. 2.0 it will shape up.

Check out Abit forums, granted most people post about problems on forums but I've seen some interesting things posted about the AN7.

However, if Abit does release a new revision of the AN7 I'll consider checking one out. I don't need the uGuru but it might be fun to play with.

Out of curiosity (since I'm a quiet PC person), can the NB fan be replaced with a Zalman HSF? I think the clips look right but I'm not sure. Just wondering because I just ordered one. And I forgot Artic Silver 5 (all out of goop at home) so I was thinking about it.

Swell, how loud is the standard fan on the NB? And is yours the old gold one or the new blue one?

I don't know how loud the standard fan is, I put the Zalman on immediately. And I have the older gold one. It works very well.

I was just wondering because the new blue one (which is all NewEgg stocks) can only use the prongs. I think I will use that in combination with some AS5.

Thank you for all the input Megatomic!

I just checked it out, it looks like it'll work. It has the same base as my NB cooler.

Glad to help. :)

I have two NF7-S's...a v1.1 and v2.0. Both will do 200+mhz FSB. Both have had zero problems. Performance is good, overclocking options are great. Board layout sucks. Period. End of sentence. In fact, it has the worst layout I've worked with to date. Thats really only a big deal if you change hardware a lot though.

EDIT: ...and the NB coolers on them are not noticable outside of the case. Not worth wasting your time with a Zalman.

Know how much dB the coolers are? And is the noticeable noise whine or air noise? I'm trying to build a silent system here...

The nfs-7 is a great motherboard, I have had no problems with mine. Its great for overclocking, I need to put a better fan on my processor to clock it higher, but currently its running great at 3200+ speeds.

Out of the machines I've built, the NF7-S is one of the most solid boards I have ever used. I have had zero problems with it, highly recommend it.

I've been reading through the NF7-S thread in Motherboards and it looks like the v 2.0 is really awesome. :) Can't wait untill it gets here...

I'm wondering about using the Serillal interface. Has the SATA corruption issue been fixed with the latest BIOS upgrade?
