How is the Mentalist still going?

I just recently finished season 3 and just started on season 4 an hour ago.

The season 3 finale should have ended things right there and then but then Season 4 came along and put out a plot twist to keep the show going.

I never thought the show would be popular enough to warrant four seasons with an upcoming season 5 in the making.

I dunno. I kind of like the show, but it's getting worse every season.

I treated Season 3 as the end, and haven't watched it since. That would have been a good conclusion to Red John.

I don't know. I acutally got tired of it during season 1. A bunch of cop/crime shows "with a twist" came out around the same time as The Mentalist.

Shows starring an Australian always seem to miraculously get renewed.

Chuck
Fringe
Mentalist

It's a conspiracy. :sneaky:

See above.

You forgot a few Aussies.

Yeah, Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) is super hot.

She does an AMAZING American accent too. I can spot a fake yank accent a mile away, but I never knew she was Australian until I read it. Mind blow.

Anna Torv (Fringe) doesn't do a half bad one either.

Did I mention Yvonne Strahovski is hot?

I'll never forget an earlier Chuck episode where she was playing an Australian scientist and used her real accent. I thought wow she's really good at that, then I discovered she's really an Aussie. You're right she does do a great American accent.

Anna Torv (Fringe) doesn't do a half bad one either.

I just learned tonight she's an Aussie, I still don't believe it.

Freakin' Aussie invasion!

I like Fringe, and I like Anna Torv, but on that program, she has about 8,000 too many lingering close-up reaction shots, each one almost exactly like the other 7,999.

What's your take on Walter and his random food cravings?

plenty of quick funny jokes, obscure 80s & 90s references that i can actually remember, and quirky one-off quotes or actions that get reused until they reach epic status

Carlton Lassiter: You couldn't beat me on the field, so now you're going to try to beat me off?
Shawn Spencer: You might want to think about rephrasing that.

Yes, Psych is hilarious. I like The Mentalist as well but I haven't been as interested in it towards the end of this past season.

Plot shtick. It's TV. You crank x++ number of 46 minute episodes each season, you rely on these. Between the "mile 416" and the "mile 418" sign on the interstate, there's a "mile 417" sign as well. Does anyone absolutely need it? No, but it's there, and it's oddly reassuring.

Such recurrent tics are relatively harmless, and viewers tend to like and even expect them, viz:

"Oh, that goofy Walter! The parallel universes are about to cross implode, and he's more focused heating bugles in a bunsen burner bechamel sauce. I swear! "
