1. Income tax should not be taken from your check. Everyone should have to write the gov't a check on April 15th. That way, you know exactly how much the gov't is taking from your pocket.

2. Change Election day to April 16th.

Yeah, that would wake people up.

It's amazing that when some banks raised raised their ATM fees, there was outrage and congressional hearings but there's largely silence over the exhorbitant taxes that we pay.

The reason we have such high taxes is because people don't know when to shut the hell up. Think about it. Goto a help the spotted owl fundraiser and talk to the people there. Be a bartender. People out to save the spotted owl? Half of them are also in homes for the homeless. They think they're doing the world a favor... doing good all around... yet they lobby to get the prices of timber down AND lobby to cut forestation rates...and amazingly, they don't fscking realize the two things conflict! What happens? You have politicians assaulted on both sides of the coin on the issue by the SAME FSCKING PEOPLE.

Take a look at the latest happenings in taxes for NYC. They're cutting garbagemen, firemen, police, etc. How many other programs are in New York? You have countless soup kitchens operating daily, methadone clinics, day-care centers all running on tax dollars which are suddenly more important than fire stations? Police stations? Why does this work? Because people are infinitely more willing to take a tax hike to get the garbage cleaned off the street...too feel safe at night...to get crooks off the sidewalks. They won't take it to stop feeding heroin addicts their methadone or let lazy mothers not take their kids to school. If these programs get cut tho...politicians lose power. They have lobbyists banging on their doors regardless of what they do unless they can somehow squeeze more funds out of the populace.
