How is the Gatorade colored sweat commercial made?

I have asked two of the top people in my graphics dept and they can't come up with really good results. They end up changing some balances and tweak the entire image. Sure the beads of sweat are colored but now my hand (used a wet hand as a test image) is like brown.

So does anyone know how it is actually done?

ARrhhhuuuhhh........it's filmed in black and white and the sweat is colored in? It's really not that hard.

On static photographs you'd get the same effect by hand tinting. Same thing except you're doing it for every frame of the commercial.

I'm guessing it's probably CGI using real actors with the effects superimposed onto them.

You're close, but what they actually do is this:

They run around out in the desert for a few days until they are so dehydrated that they are almost about to die. Then when death is imminent, they drink Gatorade by the gallons until they can hold no more, then they receive a direct IV of Gatorade until their blood and tissues are saturated with it. Then they have to hurry and film the commercial because unfortunately for the actors this process results in death in a very short time. It took them a few tries to get the exact procedure down, but I guess it was all worth it.

Assuming they make sure to take in a lot of phosphorus prior to the filming it could just be actual sweat. More likely they were sprayed with phosphorus-laced water to simulate the sweat. Phosphorus glows mighty fine under blacklight.

That sounds a little too time consuming. It's been a while since I've seen one of those commercials but they probably shot in color, sprayed the actors w/colored dye for "sweat" and then in post they destaturated the image except for the color of the "sweat." Of course they would still need to touch up parts of the image by hand and add other FX/filters to get the image to look exactly how they wanted it, but I think selective desaturation was the "main" effect they used.

haha, that picture is horrible. YOur whole hand is wet, and there are like 5 drops that are all not even on your hand, and they're like 3 pixels wide.

Or maybe the colored sweat is a disease

If you get your sweat to really be that color, you can filter it out from the rest of the picture when changing it to grayscale using normal bluescreen techniques.
