how is the 7200.7 seagate line?

i want a hd with less than 200 gb and these seem like a great deal... or are there better hd in the under 200 range for good prices?

unless theres a non-seagate with a very heavy rebate, then yes, they are a good deal. 5-year warranty alone is what should get you to buy in the first place.

does anyone happen to know the revisions from 7200.7 to 7200.8 which makes the 7200.8 so much more highly recommended on these boards? Or is it just the fact that that line supports high capacity hds?

mostly because of its ability to support more storage. the difference from the two are small in a majority of everyday usage.

For the OP, 7200.7 or 7200.8 are both excellent drives.

$50 worth of 450 watts of fortron would be more on the positive side.

the 7200.8 actualy runs hotter and in some cases performed worse than the 7200.7 but in any event both are good units if performance isn't your main concern.

They are great drives for the Price/Performance not only cause of the warranty but they are durable. When I switched to the SATA style I moved em over to my PATA trays and also have them in Porta's...Hell one fell off the desk and I got Paranoid for no reason and they blow the WD's I was using away. Look for the 8MB cache ones. They are the Plus line...
