How is SP3?

No.

It's still beta; best wait for the release!

As you may already know,
Microsoft has a public forum board for Windows XP SP3 HERE.

If you poke around over there you'll notice right away they're still having tons of problems with SP3. Apparently SP3 is buggy as all get out right now.

Better wait for the released version.
Don't worry, you won't miss it, you'll hear about it when it's out.

Better not mess yourself up with SP3 in its current pre-released state!

I have been running XP SP3 RC1 now for going on 2 months. Not one problem noted. One good thing about the current RC1 - unlike Vista Sp1, it does not require uninstalling to move to a newer build or the final version. It will update.

I used SP3 RC1 also, I noticed no problems with my computer afterwards. My wife is now using my old windows machine and she's reported no problems to me so far. What are some of these issues scott?

Read a bit in some of the threads in the Microsoft board, link in my post above.

Typical:

* SP3 & DCOM Error

* XP SP3 still buggy

* Trend Micro Internet security 2008 and seems to be a compatibilty concern with sp3

* Network connectivity issue, SP3

* RDP client 6.1 (bundled with SP3 RC2) lost ability to connect to ...

* Problems with "File in Use"

* Boot problem after sp3 rc2 installed

* Incorrect Registry Entry After Slipstream Install of SP3

Look around over on that web board for more.

Microsoft knew Vista wasn't ready, but released it anyway.

and anyone would want to be the first on their block to install XP beta SP3 MS software?

Fail.

One thing I do wonder (worry?) about is that SP3 could downgrade our current XP installations, as a MS ploy to prompt users to buy their overpriced Vista bloatware. Some validation of this concern, with reasons given, is discussed in the MS SP3 web forum linked above.
