How is memory shared between X2 cores

Insidious

With the A64 X2 processors, If I put in two sticks of memory (dual mode), does each core only get half of it, or is the memory allocated as needed to either until it is used up?

TIA

either core can use either stick of memory. And the two cores talk to each other also.

Only one thing to keep in mind. If you get an X2, since you can do so much more multitasking, make sure you have plenty of memory. When I am heavy into work, I get up to 700-800 meg used ! And I have a gig, so no problem, but I would never try with 512 meg.

very good advise!

I have been teetering back and forth between a 2GB kit and a 1GB kit. I think I can get by ok with the 1GB for now, but I want to end up with 2GB. I know the 1T command rate is lost with 4 sticks if I do the 1GB now and 1 more GB later, is that a very big deal? I will be using CAS2 memory... will that make up most of the 1T vs. 2T loss?

2GB (1Gx2) = Worth it IMO. If you do anything with photoshop, or video editing get 2GB. I had 1GB and found I was hitting the page file a LOT when I was heavy into editing images and video. I currently run 2GB and will commonly go over the 1GB mark, with no slowdowns. And I don't even have dual core yet! If I did I would be encoding DIVX in the background, requiring even more of my 2GB stockpile
