Yes, seriously.

I can't find good numbers. Thanks!

Given up on life already? :p
My thoughts exactly. To fill people in, we're really looking at an 04 MPV lx with 15,100 miles from the dealer for $15,900. It's a shockingly good price. The hondas/siennas for the same mileage (for some reason I don't care about the quests) are going to cost $4k or more over that. Comes with another 47k bumper to bumper and 85k powertrain. It's awful, of course.

My concern is which max to sell. I just love both of them but I have a special spot for my 00 so I'm trying to see if I can keep that one instead of the 97, which while truly superb (it's a maxima afterall) isn't quite as nice.

i think the MPV is a pretty good van. i love maxima's too but at that price, the MPV is a good buy for a people transporter.

look on the bright side... no more premium gas!

i dont see it comparable to the top3. Even my own mazda3, there's all kinds of little stuff that goes wrong with it almost all the time

Yes, subaru was rated by CD as one of the best--if not the best. Subaru is bad ass.

Bump for questions in first post :)

They're fine cars. While I don't have an MPV, my Mazda has over 110,000 miles, and it is over 11 years old. Still going strong.

Consumer Reports lists the MPV as the 4th rated minivan. The Odyssey is 1st, Sienna 2nd, Quest 3rd, and MPV 4th. They list the predicted reliability for both the quest and the MPV as poor, while the Odyssey is above average and the Sienna is excellent.

Thx!

I can live with #4. I know it's no honda or toyota, and I suppose the quest edges it out in part because the quest has a higher power engine (and though the rest of the quest may be sub par that's a great engine). If CD rates this above the other scores of minivans I can sleep soundly.

I have a 2000 MPV with almost 71K miles on the engine. It runs like I picked it up from the dealership and I am still running the same original spark plugs(I will have it changed this summer). No squeaks and the minivan still feels tight. The red engine light came on twice around 50K then 60K but after a few days the light went out. I still have never figured out why the light came on - loose gas cap? But I would buy another one if I had my van stolen or totaled.

I live in SF and where I live(65 year old home) a Honda or Toyota Minivan would not fit going thru our narrow garage door.

Buy it!

they also show jaguar as #3. yeah right. when hell freezes over.

The list is right. This list is showing initial quality ratings, not reliability ratings. I don't know why people in this thread are trying to rank reliability with an initial quality survey. The two are often quite different. One car may look great when it's new but fall apart quickly. That vehicle would score well on initial quality, but poorly on reliability. BMW and Mercedes are examples of this.

for question #2 on the OP....dealers don't title a car, they just handle the exchange

All I can say is that my MZ3 has been trouble-free since January with 3600 miles on the ODO.

Is the build quality perfect? No, when I turn the bass up, I can hear a slight rattle in the passenger's side door that concerns me a little. Will keep an eye out for it, but the power window and lock still work fine on that side.

GT - Thats not really to do with build quality - its the fact that a door card (plastic) just isn't designed to withstand a speaker dancing away.

Most cars do this without a little sound deadening (at least, the ones I'm familiar with).

We've got a 2000 MPV in the family. It's got 50-60k now, still runs great. No major problems at all. Will handle better than a Sienna or Ody too. Only two complaints, and they are relatively minor. 1: engine could use a bit more power. 2: The front cup holders are worthless. Other than that though, it's been perfect.

edit: we put 87 in it....

Apparently the 200 horsepower engine became standard with 2003 or something like that, so you must have 170 I guess. I can see how that wouldn't be spectacular :(

I've had my Mazda6 for 1 1/2 years so far, and though I love it has had some issues:

1) when braking and turning (like into a parking spot) there is grinding. I have had this issue "fixed" twice now, but it's still there.

2) door molding had to be replaced due to a recall

3) 6 CD player stopped working

4) compass only points SW. have to get that fixed.

5) leather on back of front seats has come undone at the bottom (need to be restapled or whatever they do)

6) gear shifter or whatever it's called had to be fixed because when I would shift down (mazda6 has the auto/manual shifting capabilities) it would stick.

7) tire rod and wheel bent after wife hit a pothole. not Mazda's fault perse, but I wouldn't have expected a pothole to do $400 of damage.

No problems with the engine, which is good and almost everything has been covered under warranty.

dad got a new MPV 2 years ago. Good stuff. Was rated up there with the Sienna. But if you have the extra cash, go for the tried and true Odyssey. Otherwise, MPV is a perfectly fine minivan.

Well we got it.

We got the rare mazdaspeed version of it with twin turbos and 420 HP at the wheels. It smokes them all the way through third. The ultimate sleeper! ;)
