Welcome to Kentucky. Until ~20 years ago, Kentucky was virtually a one party state (Democrat). Ideology didn't factor, if you wanted to get elected, you were a Democrat. The GOP has made huge inroads, particularly in statewide races but the Dem machine is still coughing along. In Kentucky politics, family, political clan (for lack of better word to describe traditional factions within the Dem machine), and regionalism are more important than ideology. Kentucky has Dems that out rightwing even the modern Reps.

To answer your first question, it's unfortunately a widely held belief that people are rigid in their beliefs along widely held political definitions. A religious Democrat? You bet, I'm sure there a multitude of them. In fact I know several myself. I guess she's just a backwoods, bible-thumping, nut Democrat, eh? Shocking to you I guess, but not to me.

As to your second question, the government takes care of its own. Government jobs can be very lucrative from both a compensation and benefit perspective. That doesn't mean it's right, it just is.

80K is not absurdly high. But I know lot of gov workers with higher skill sets and much lower salaries.

What the hell does she do all day besides push a pencil across a piece of paper???
 
Staver also criticized Beshear on Friday, saying, "She is incarcerated not because of anything she's done but because of what the governor has failed to do."

He said the governor could issue an executive order to solve the problem.

The legislature could pass a law removing clerks' names from the licenses, but it won't be in session until January.

I really hope that, among other things, Kim Davis serves as an example to all those national Democrats (ie: the DNC) who think they can win rural southern votes by trying not to be too liberal.
 
The judge implied on Thursday he may release her this week. His goal was to have the county comply and its complied.
More interesting question is she gets back into the office and fires everybody who issued the certificates or does she allow it to continue or does she shut the office down

They're as valid as any license issued on a day she was sick, on vacation, or out of the office for whatever reason at the time when they were issued.

This loon needs to stay in jail until she complies or resigns and shit on the judge if he releases her otherwise.
