How is GIMP compared to Photoshop?

I haven't found anything that I haven't been able to do in Gimp so far.

It is actually very similar to using PS. I've picked it up very quickly. You can't beat it for the price.

It's like Photoshop with a UI designed by a spaztic mule. Completely unintuitive compared to Photoshop (well, at least from a longtime photoshop user's perspective)

Not that either is all that intuitive. It's just if you're used to one it's hard to adapt.
It's not as full-featured, but for most home users, it's great.

Give it a try. Worst that can happen is you delete it.

It works well as long as you aren't a crazy serious photoshop user.

It is sometimes difficult to find the function you want to use.

It is far more powerful than the typical home user programs like Paint Shop Pro and WAY cheaper. For a normal user I think it's a no-brainer your choices are:
- GIMP for free
- PSP or like program for ~$50-130
- Photoshop for $way too much (I don't know for sure, but more than I paid for any single hardware component I own, I know that much)

It's quirky, but fully capable of doing anything the typical home user wants and probably significantly more.

As was said, download it and try it. It only costs you some time to check it out.
Compare it to some shareware type programs and make your choice.

This is probably why I did not like GIMP. I am very used to Photoshop as I have used for for quite some time now. Same with MS Office and OpenOffice. Even though OpenOffice looks like a better prudct from the feutures I was just so used to using Microsoft Word.

Photoshop Elements. Same UI as Photoshop, all non-insanouser features are covered, and it's cheap.

I wouldn't exactly call $100 cheap, especially compared to free.

I've read that if your a professional there is no replacement for PS, but if your not that hard core I don't think it makes much difference which one you use.... O ya one is free.
