I'm looking to get a new video card, i dont see any reason to wait for nv30 if its only going to be 20-30% faster than the radeon with more, yet useless features that go beyond dx9.. so i take it its a dx9/10 kinda maybe sorta board that will never be a full dx10 part but you still pay for all the extras.

I am using a geforce 3 currently, i have it because its a dx8 compliant card my next card i would rather skip simply getting another dx8 card and go for dx9 features.

Am i wrong or did nvidia finally get ati (an older and powerful company) mad and ati is whopping up pretty hard? Because when the nv30 is released ati should have even better stuff in the works while nvidia is struggling to get the nv30 out?

opinions?

I recently upgraded my Geforce 3 to the Radeon 9700 Pro retail, and it rocks. Everything runs great at highest resolutions. The latest drivers (2.4 Catalysts) run great, and hopefully they worked out most of the bugs with different mobo/platforms.

i have mine running directx9 beta and directx9rco drivers it runs great.the detail in dronez benchmarks/demo and ut2003 are awesome
i tried commanche4 again(first time on this card) wow it actually plays and smooth too.

the drivers for my rig are spot on.they have fixed all my issues(3) to date one was tribes 2 black menu except under mouse
bf1942 menu's no writting, and need for speed wouldn't run but all these have been fixed for me

gaming on this card is like rediscovering gaming all over again
the demos for the ati in directx9 are even better imho
jedi knight is beautiful

and i refuse to play without all the details maxed out

i would definately buy it again but then i would own the aiw version;)

I absolutely love my card and each driver release fixes more and more of my remaining issues. The DX9 RC0 drivers work quite well.

I have to say that the coolest thing about my radeon is the fact that I can now game with AA and AF on.....now, when I look at other people's comps when they play, I am like, eww (even when it is a GF4). The ability to take away jaggies and 'texture progression' with AA and AF is really amazing.

I am enjoying my Sapphire Radeon 9700. I upgraded from a Geforce 3 TI 200. The AA and AF capabilities make this card stand out - 16xAF/4xAA or even 8xAF/2xAA makes games look so much better it's almost ridiculous. I haven't had any major issues so far with my card.

Its so great it minds me of my 3DFX days. I wish Ati would come out with some more cool demos.

Also, I would like to say that ATI seems to be very dedicated to their driver support. They have a rep over @ rage3d who listens to complaints and whatnot...and they release new drivers fairly often.

Yeah, not to be too much of a fanATic, which I admittedly may be because I have been very pleased with many of their products, but I think it's VERY cool that a driver support/engineer hangs out and helps at Rage3d.
