How is entering the GPU industry too expensive?

OP: You are right in that it was much easier to enter the market in the old days. Here's a simple analogy to help you see why that isn't the case anymore:

If you were thinking about entering the weapons industry in prehistoric times, the cost of entry is tiny because you would be making clubs and stones. If you were to try to get in today though, it would be a bit more expensive... ;)

Heh, you could go in making clubs and stones. You'd just have to be creative with your marketing :p

Well in the old old days before IP laws, when Joe down the street stole your idea for a new product you either lived with it or paid the local mob to pay Joe a visit.

and to really revolutionize you'd just need to make onyx arrow/spearheads where as now a days you'd need like sharks with lasers.
