How is DC to visit at this time of year?

Shouldn't be bad unless there's some kind of game going on. Otherwise, traffic moves acceptably well for a downtown city, and the highways aren't terribly congested. All bets are off if it's raining. People forget how to drive when the sky's falling.

Went decently. DC was awesome driving into it last night. Traffic was no worse than moderate and then as I got inside of the beltway it got down right light, no problem going as fast as I wanted to.

Today was stupidly cold, so didn't ultimately spend too long there. Will have to do it again better when the weather doesn't downright suck. At least it wasn't raining.

A unique American city for sure. All of those massive, old buildings, you don't see that anywhere else on such a scale.

My only real complaint was that the air and science museum sucked. It looks like a really great museum but possibly due to its free admission it was unbelievably packed--and I really don't think DC was particularly crowded today (i.e. driving through it would have been pretty much fine). I bet that otherwise good museum is always like a zoo, it's just got too many people.

I went to DC during 4th of July a few years back. Was great but holy crap it was hot and humid. Unfortunately I was only there for five days and no where near enough time to see everything.

Eh. That's because you should have gone to the Udvar-Hazy Center near IAD aiport. But yeah, freaking freezing this weekend. Will probably be ideal in about two weeks.

The Smithsonian museums are best visited weekdays and November through early March. Now with Cherry Blossom Festival and spring tourist season starting despite the weather they will be packed every weekend.

In DC right now. We're having a good trip I guess but one filled with lots of disappointment. To be honest I wish we had just delayed it another year or two. It's like they've decided to focus all construction effort on the mall area. You know, the area you probably most think about when thinking DC.

There is no reflecting pool at Lincoln Memorial. At least the park ranger was nice enough to show me a photo of what it usually looks like.

The entire mall area between Washington monument and the Capitol building is dug up and under construction.

The Capitol dome is completely covered in scaffolding.

All of the water features at the FDR monument are turned off.

And to top it off...

There are no cherry blossoms. Not surprising but would have been a nice to have given the rest. Heck it was 18 with wind chill this morning.

But all in all the important thing is that the Preds beat the Caps on Saturday.

Note on the weather... Today was actually awesome compared to yesterday provided you were properly layered. The wind gusts yesterday made it fairly miserable regardless.

Where will you be staying?

Without knowing your location, I am going to highly recommend Toki Underground on H Street. Best Ramen in the city. You will likely have to go there, put your name in and then wait at the bar that's downstairs. It's a very busy place. A close second is Sakuramen in Adam's Morgan. Less busy.

Cool we are actually staying in the Adams Morgan area so may look for that place tonight. Thanks.
