How is David Blaine (Blaire?)'s levitation trick done?

What you see is a camera trick, nothing else. They just shoot him from an angle where he is standing on one foot, and the camera sees it as floating. The viewer reaction is filmed seperately.

I always wondered how he did that.

Note: His shoes have something done with the sole so he can stand on his toe (of one foot) and appear as though he's levitating. The reason he makes people stand at certain spots is so they can't see his toes (angle of view is too steep).

There's websites which reveal a lot of his tricks, search google for more.

I searched google.. what baffles me is that I know of a couple people that saw david blaine (blaire??) and attested that his feet were in fact off the ground. I argued the angle thing cause he always has people stand together and at a certain angle...

My only notice was he ALWAYS does it next to buildings.. he never does that trick out in the open.. I thought maybe there was some sort of tieline or something that did it

Deception, and they fell for it. He can't fly.

One thing you have to remember about his TV specials and card tricks is that he may have done it 200 times that day. The one time he got it right is the one time you see it on TV. Pick a number, blah blah blah. Say he does that 100 times a day, he's probably going to guess it once.

Still, I like the guy and his shows. Anyone seen Derren Brown before? He's similar to David Blaine and based in the UK. My brother game me a DVD of his for Xmas but I haven't watched it yet. He's the guy that did the russian roulette trick a couple months ago.

Anyone have any sites that reveal some of these magic tricks? I've always been fascinated by them. Google didn't really turn up anything worthwhile when I did a search ...

He cannot levitate. Any time you see him with his feet not on the ground, there are wires holding him up. Simple as that. The guy cannot levitate. Most any time they've shown it on TV, the audience has been in on it. They tape him doing it using angles. Then, they will tape him again with wires actually lifting. They splice together the two and there you have it.

Well, then we should perform the test they used back in the day:

1. Bind his arms and legs.

2. Throw him in a river/lake

3. If he floats, he's a witch. He is to be executed.

4. If he does not float, he is not a witch. However, he will die anyway.

Everyone should try the trick on edro 13's link. Very impressive, especially for kids. Just make sure the whole audience sees you from the same angle, and never repeat it, since it's easy to be caught. Use shoes with heels, white tennis shoes won't work.

The trick is not hard to do at all. I have a video of me doing it somewhere.
