How is CS these days?

For whatever reason, I kinda had the urge to get CS again. I've played CS on and off (heavily for a while) since beta 1, although I don't think I've played v1.0 even, most of my time was spent in the beta ones.

What's new since all this time that has passed? I looked at the CS Maps on their webpage, and there's nothing new since I last played it! All the weapons it shows are the same, and so are the player models and game modes...

Most importantly, what about cheating?? It wasn't a real problem (to me anyway, I could wreck those f*ckers without cheating back in the day) then, but since there I've read a lot on how bad it got, but I'm not sure if that has improved. I havne't played CS/Half-life in at least a year.
 
The cheating has definately gone down since the Valve anti cheat has come into place.. since public client hook cheats get detected within 2 days of release.. and their wallhack block has rendered wallhacks useless..

At the moment, there aren't any real big changes.... unless you find that the stamina jumping is a problem..
In the next version coming out soon (1.6), they're incorporating a couple of new weapons plus a riot shield for the CT's.. should be interesting
 
I find that CS is still the best game out there due to maturity of the game (not the players 😛) and # of players available even tho there are many games out ther whose actual game play is IMO better than CS.

Technically, CS means "Cable Select" and is a jumper setting on most IDE devices. 🙂 🙂
 
I hit it up, pretty much the same as before.

Kick ass game!!!! It is like years and years ahead of anything out right now and it is a very old game. FPS games that come out these days don't even compare IMO!
 
you need a server with mature players and anti cheater to have fun. good thing i found couple of those to keep me busy!!!
I have lost interest in many new games these days, I found myself going back to CS all the time and lose interest in the newly purchased games 🙁. ex: MOHAA, WOLF, Marrowwind, UT2K3, 1942, WC3, etc.)

Amen to that. I keep wondering what could possibly be better than CS as far as replayability goes. It's such a deep game that everytime I play, I know I'm getting a bit better, but still far from being the best. There's so many factors to it, and with the new weapons, CS will have even more new strategies to learn. Although I know Doom 3 will take some of my time when it comes along, I know I will be playing CS right along with it and well after. Definitely come back and give it a try again. I started around 1.3, but I've loved it since.

I'm in California, Pacific standard time, 🙁 whenever I log on to ET's server its empty. We don't have enough Westerners playing? 🙁
 
CS is great, and your right about the new games. I think BF would be an awesome game, if the netcode didn't suck so hard.
I still am not good at CS, and I hate having to wait 2 mins or whatever after I get blown away to rejoin the game.
Also the Q2 graphics are getting a little old for me. I dunno, an new updated version based on the 2k3 engine would be awesome.


The game that I can't seem to get away from is MOHAA. For some reason to me it's just so damn fun.

Cstrike is a great game, but it does have its disadvantages :

newb server admins that think you're hacking when you go on a 7-0 run with a pistol, and ban you. or turn you into a llama
servers with all these extras, like glow commands, and extra sound
You just need to play on the pure servers, without any of those gay addons and its great. Just some basic server addons, like adminmod or something like that.


But dont be afraid, there are a lot of people who suck at it.. and a bunch who are great. Nice range, just find the server that appeals to you the most.

Well, glow commands (eg, admin_fun, admin_disco, admin_glow) as well as some sounds ARE options of adminmod.
